The Obsidian Order is an agency primarily in Enclaves whose host countries hold a particular interest to Thay. The organization specializes in covert and standard operations, which are intended to further 'foster good trade relations' with other countries. Thayan commoners are known to fear of the Obsidian Order, whose constant surveillance is a source of paranoia for many.

The Obsidian Order was possibly formed in the 14th century, under the theoretical authority of a supposed alliance of Tharcs which may or may not have existed; specifically and suppositionally, these Tharchions and Tharchionesses were the following: Thessaloni Canos of Alaor, Dmitra Flass of Eltabbar, Nymia Focar of Pyarados, Spiros Dehkahks of Thaymount (before his 'mysterious' disappearance'), and Milsantos Daramos of Thazalhar. It is interesting to note, that each of these Thayans oppose Szass Tam in one form or another.
The organization of the Obsidian Order is separated into semi-autonomous cells, which are insulated from each other so that the capture of any particular operative or "Knight" has a limited ability to compromise the organization.
