First of what a great problem to have!! Too many players to be able to do it in one group! Over 46 players again! I am greatly honored by the turn out.
I am very sorry the event did not go as smoothly as I thought it would. I expected about half that many players. I should have been better prepared. We simply overwhelmed the capabilities or the DM staff and the server tools. It was taking me 20 seconds just to click a single dm tool.
So here is the story so far and my plans to continue. This is an open thread please feel free to post here to organize your sections.
First everything happened as it did. All the RP up to the last crash counts. Everything you did or tried to do counts. Salzar, Card, and Vlaric showed did what they did and the results are what they are. There was a misunderstanding between those player as one was talking about one thing and another assume it was something else. I missed this and didn’t get a chance to correct it, Friday and before the battle on Saturday there simply too many relevant conversations for me to catch them all. Additionally there was a lack of sufficient communication on my part between myself and certain factions. I pressed this event to happen this weekend because I had all weekend to dedicate to it. This pressed the time line to short for me to have sufficient time to communicate to all parties involved effectively. This is a failure on my part and if you recall when I started I said I am only human and will make mistakes; this was one of them. I trust the community forgive me and will carry on still the best of my abilities within the tools we have. Now for the story!
The Adventures attacked the outer defenses struggling but eventually succeeded in smashing the first layer of defense. They were attacked by archers, ballista, dark priest and red robed wizard. The player could over hear the dark priest giving orders and noticed him wearing symbols of Bane and in turn they hear the soldiers refer to him Imperceptor. The red robe wearing wizard also cast spells at the adventures and someone over heard the bad guys shout “Look out Ambassador” as a arrow flew past him. They players learned that reinforcements were coming from the East Road. The Ambassador seemed to hope to catch the Adventures off guard by a simple attack to the flank. Perhaps he underestimated his enemy expecting them to not be as prepared as a formally trained army. The Adventures were ready for it and leapt upon the re-enforcements forcing them to withdraw.
After using most of their spells bashing against the first layer of defense and the reinforcements, both sides withdrew to their own base camps to tend to the wounded and to rest their casters.
The adventures quickly realize that to get through a given layer of defense will leave them depleted of spells and exhausted from fighting. They realize this is exactly Ambassador Heldermorn’s plan. He aims to wear them down against these static defenses while he keeps his main force in reserve in the fortress. Then when they fall back to rest on the second or third night he would rush them with his best men. He plans to lull them in to believing they can rest between layers of defense but the Adventures figure out his strategy. They come together at the war table and decide that bet way to manage the layered defense is to attack with a rotating layered offense. That way while one force is wearing down the static defense another is prepared to pick up just as their spells wear out.
The forces are split in two three companies the Sword, Hammer, and Shield companies. The smaller groups are each given specific battlefield objectives.
Heldermorn orders the reinforcements to change direction hoping to spit the forces attacking him by laying siege to Tyrluk itself. The defenders from the East Road shift to defend the city. The RCMH duty is to defend the city first holding out until an Army of PDK’s can arrive. The PDK army and RCHM will march on the fort and destroy it assuming the Adventures don’t manage to get it done first which they might do.
OOC: We will run these different events at different times. One time defenders of the town will run. Then we will run each Company one at a time. Now this will likely mean we will attack the fortress on three different occasions with different stories emerging and different tales being told. This is acceptable and will be RPed as it took that long to secure the outer grounds.
Break this army down in to groups and tell me what times work best for you. I am ready to roll all day today from the time of this post for the next 10 hours minus small break times. As soon as you get your first group of three or more characters that want to do your part post here or get in the game and the DM Channell I am going to be around all day long. Give me the first group of players who can be ready and lets start knocking out these groups.
Those of you who have a plan to deal with the Minotaur don’t worry about breaking up on this. You will get your chance to execute those plans.
