I've been away from the city these past few days so I haven't gotten to see anything in theaters but I have seen a two movies worth talking about.
Gone Girl: If you've listened to the hype around this movie, it will likely be ruined for you. It's a good movie but not worth the excitement it has gotten since its release. Personally, I think its one of Fincher's weaker movies.
The Good Lie: A surprisingly good movie about a family of refugees from Suddan who find a home in the US. As much as I hate Reese Uselessspoon, she doesn't chew up as much screen time as the trailer implies. I recommend this feel good story for a lovely afternoon movie. Some of it can be hard to watch but it's no 12 years a slave.

I really don't know what to think about this!!!! I'm so torn. Personally it looks like a giant pile but then a part of me things that this could be my next Stardust. Man I thought that movie was going to be complete crap but it turns out to be one of my absolute favorites. I'm still going to see this just so that I can judge harshly on Marvel because they're releasing (apparently) a fantastic 4 trailer with this movie.

If it helps, everyone who has gone to an advance screening who has commented(on forums and other places) has said positive things about it. They seemed to really love it, any critical comments have been few.

Just a heads up, The Interview was soooooooooooo bad. The funniest part was the first 20 minutes. I'm surprised the North Koreans didn't want everyone to watch it as I'm sure it makes americans look worse then the Koreans (I kid). I wanted to drop kick James Franco pretty much the entire movie.

m.imdb.com/title/tt3488462/Absolutely brilliant. Girl and her grandfather and his Alzheimer disease. If you understand German or can see it with subtitles, go watch. Dieter Hallervorden and Emma Schweiger acting everybody off the screen. If this was done in Hollywood it would be getting an Oscar.

OMG! YES! Til Schweiger is such a good artist. I love him as an actor. He's the american Viggo Mortensen. I saw it this last weekend. My boss is german and is lending me a different european movie every weekend. This weekend I have Gomorrah, really looking forward to it. www.imdb.com/title/tt0929425/

Saw " 20000 days on earth" on the plane. While it wasn't the brilliant movie I'd been hoping for, it was still kinda cute. Made me watch " Night on Earth" again, though, and it's been too long since I did.

I just finished watching a crap ton of new movies for me lately. Here's a couple opinions that I'd like to share:
First off, if there are Zach Braff fans out there, I would suggest watching Wish I was here. Really loved it.
Next I want to throw a little bit of disappointment out there for Age of Ultron. I won't spoil anything but I didn't get ANY epic scale vibe from this. The villain was more of a wise cracking snob then a menacing evil. I had beef with it.
Those are the two that really stood out for me. If any others pop up, I'll toss them on here.
Out of curiosity though, what kind of genre are folks here most interested in?

So excited about this one. For me, the first one was the best and the first sequel was ok. The second sequel (JP3) was horrible though. Still, I cannot wait to watch Jurassic World!

Actually, I thought the first sequel was kind of lame and liked the second sequel, but whatever. This new one looks really cool. The only question is, with the constant fiascos on these islands, who in their right mind would attempt to open another theme park there, lol. Just saw Mad Max in 3D over the weekend. It was pretty good if you like lots of spectacular choreographed action. Story was pretty light.

The inly positive i took from age of ultron was the after credits scene. All I can say without spoiling is, it's about time.

I haven't chimed in for a while now so I thought I would bounce my top 5 movies of 2015 thus far.
1. Without a doubt, Mad Max: Fury Road. The simplest of plots has created one of the funnest and best shot actions movies I have seen since probably the Dark Knight. The responses I have gotten from others is one of those "love it or hate it" type of movies. I'm on the motha flippin' lovin' this *holy frioles* movie side of things.
2. Inside Out: Yes, it is a cartoon done by disney and pixar. But the mere brains behind the personification of the way we think, how our emotions work and (hilariously) how our memories help mold who we become is brilliant. Another simple story not made so simple that is really made for all ages. I wish I could see this movie as a few different ClarkGrizwald ages and how me at 8, 14, 21 and now would interpret it. Loved it.
3. Ex-Machina: To some this movie might be slow, but it really hits home for AI geeks. This movie deals with AI and how humans want to try and control it and understand it. It's also an interesting story of a boss, tester and AI regarding who exactly is manipulating whom in a secluded house in the mountains. Ex-Machina also deals with an interesting view of humanity itself depicted through its only three characters.
4. Kingsman: The Secret Service. Matthew Vaughn directs another fun as hell movie here. He takes the cheesy James Bond'ish spy movie and modernizes it a little. The trailer is garbage but the movie is worth seeing.
5. What We do in the Shadows: Yeah, techincally it was released to a limited audience in 2014 but it got a wide release in 2015 so I'm dropping it on my list. (Let's be real, there haven't been a HUGE number of really amazing movies this year). This hilariously dark, gory mockumentary about a bunch of vampire roomies in New Zealand really surprised. Cleverly written, well acted and neetly shot as far as mockumentaries go, What We Do in the Shadows provides a fun new story on modern vampires with the classic vampire powers/weaknesses.
2015 has been pact with popcorn flicks and mediocre movies thus far but nothing for me really stood out like these ones. If you haven't seen these movies, try'em out. If you don't agree - sweet! What movies have made your top 5 thus far?
