I'm a little fuzzy on the 3.x rules, but seems to me that NWN got them wrong.
The way I understand it is that Demi-liches transcend the state of a lich and depart to travel planes of existance mortals aren't even aware of. It's a new state of being where they no longer have the nead or desire for a physical body and leave it behind to travel around as a disembodied skull (which I think is silly- made more sense in 2nd edition where the skull was the left behind remains that did nothing but sap the life from any passer-by).
So anyway, we have a floating skull traveling unknown planes. When one is encountered on the Prime Material Plane (which should never happen since it became a demi-lich to leave this plane), it shouldn't have a phalactery, should it? I mean, if you destroy a demi-lich, that should be the end of it, right?
Just something I was thinking about at work last night.

What book are demiliches in?
They aren't listed in the books I have.

If memory serves me correct (likely not), that creature should be in the fiend folio. If you have the old Tome of Horror module (old school AD&D) I believe the creature is listed in there as well.

They're not in Fiend Folio

a demi-lich is listed in the same section of the monster's manual as a lich. Just as a draco-lich is listed with the dragons and drow is listed with elves.

Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.
No, neither the demilich nor the dracolich is listed in my Monster Manual 3.5e with the lich entry. If it had been, I would not have said it wasn't.

Dracolich is actually in the FRCS (pg. 310).

The Dracolich will also be a mini in the upcoming War of the Dragon Queen expansion. ;D ;D ;D

Sorry, Monroe. That's where it was in 2nd Ed and also 3.0 (I think).

Ah. Good stuff.
And sorry if my tone with the Monopoly reference was harsh, Soulfien. I think my hackles were already up for an unrelated reason when I replied earlier.

It's all good, Monroe.
Hmm... that really sounds like they totally changed the whole philosophy behind the demi-lich. Now it sounds like the lich simply becomes a floating skull for slightly more power.

The description you're giving sounds abit like the description of the Unbodied from the Expanded Psionics Handbook, creatures that came from a race that started to transcend the flesh and reach a higher plane of existence, but are still driven by wants and needs of normal beings

see, most demi-liches really just want and need a big hug....but they have no arms....so over the eons they have become very angry. Just take the skull, stick it under yer armpit and give it a big noogie....most demi-liches really warm up to you if you just give them a little love...and noogies.

A new humane movement, hug the demiliches. Ranks right up there with Clothe the Dracoliches and Save the Vampires. Because the sentient undead need love too, before they turn you into piles of dust with their unholy powers

Vampires don't turn you to dust. They're a very open and forward looking undead movement, always seeking able-bodied recruits.
Unfortunately, they occasionally get turned to dust themselves.
