Dear Father,
The road to Cormyr was long and full of perils, though, by shadowing the many guarded trade caravans along the route I was able to reach a small fortified settlement called Isinhold unharmed. Unfortunately my beloved mount Elevere was not so lucky and she passed shortly before my arrival here. She was an old mare, and it seems her time was due. It saddens me to lose such a loyal companion.
It seems the rumours of this land's troubles circulating in Waterdeep are true and the danger to our kin in Forest Thunder is real. We passed many ruined towns and settlements along the way and the only travellers we passed were either refugees fleeing or adventurers heading the other way to seek profit amid the mayhem. I am myself low on coin now, despite the sum from the family savings you provided. Tis as shame the army pension they provide you with is so meagre. Alas it seems I shall have to try and find some employ here in Isinhold in order to purchase a new mount or find another method of reaching my destination. I would journey the rest of the way on foot, however I was warned by a fellow ranger I met a long the way called Vind Rylanger (I believe was his last name) that the road on foot would be too far and dangerous without the means for a fast escape should trouble arise (Though I know he meant no offense, I think he felt I was too inexperienced for the trip). He was good company and we shared many stories. Was a strange thing that two days after our arrival in town he vanished without a trace, no goodbye.
Anyway, I am confindent my skills will be of some use here, it seems adventurers are being recruited to bolster the local armies ranks and so I will look into this or perhaps join an adventuring crew. With any luck I should earn enough coin within a few seasons to continue my journey. I have sent word to Uncle Falandir that I will arrive as soon as at all possible and for him to move deeper into the wood until then.
Well that is all for now, give my love to my young Kesalir and let him know that his elder brother is still alive, though I am sure he is more interested in the girls than my exploits!
Until I can write again, farewell.
Your Elderson,
Quinidar Siril
