So I played a Wizard for a short time a while back, and I never understood how wizards could share there spells with one another. Only way I could figure out was scribing a scroll, and I am just not that good of an RPer to throw away xp like that. So I was wondering if I missed something. If I didn't it would great if there was an item that represented a wizards spellbook and allowed them to share spells with other wizards, or for other wizards to claim after a duel.

to my knowledge, the only way to share spells is to scribe scrolls, and the XP loss shouldn't be that great, but i haven't tried playing a wizard on FRC, so i can't know for sure...
this spellbook that allows wizards to share spells at no XP cost sounds like a good feature in the spirit of dnd, where it would be possible for wizards to borrow each other's spellbooks and copy spells at no XP cost.
however, this is hard to do with the nwn game mechanics (if possible at all), and the only way of adding spells to your spellbook in nwn, is to have the scroll in your inventory and adding it.
so this would mean that wizards would be creating scrolls from their spellbooks at no XP cost, and that is severely exploitable.
so while the idea is good in spirit, i just don't think it can be done in nwn. the best way IMO is to leave things the way they are now.

scribing scrolls isn't very hard on xp... it's the money you need to worry about.
You pay not only for the level of the spell being scribed, but also the casting level... Bioware preset all spells with various casting levels- For instance, scribing magic missile at lvl 5 would grant you a casting spell of 9. Get to lvl ten and you have to pay for the next highest one which is like say 15 for instance... HUGE jump in price for a simple lvl 1 spell, right?
Of course, you can charge the other wizard an arm and a leg for it if they have the money, but unfortunately, you never know how much it's going to cost until you actually scribe it. If the other wizrd thinks the price isn't worth it, you just wasted a lot of money.
I've always thought NWN needed spellbooks- Bioware really took a LOT of crummy shortcuts when they made this game

Actually, I discovered the formula for the cost and xp cost of scribing and brewing. It goes like this:
Caster lvl x spell lvl x 25 = price of scribe Price of scribe/25 = xp cost of scribe i.e. - as per soulfien's example - 9 x 1 x 25 = 225 gp 225/25= 9 xp
Caster lvl x spell lvl x 50 = price of brew Price of brew/25 = xp cost of brew i.e. -shadow shield (caster lvl 13)- 13 x 7 x 50 = 4550 gp 4550/25 = 182 xp
so, in this instance, I agree with soulfien.
Personally, I like the idea of a spellbook, and I like the idea that wizards can actually share what spells they've learned...because that's what wizards do....it's bragging rights to show another wizard your spellbook when you have more powerful spells in it.

We aren't going to have spellbooks in FRC.
