A scream pierces the dead of night in Valkur's Roar on the 14th of Eleasias, 1377. A courtesan in a torn and blood-streaked dress rushes into Talbot's Table Inn in tears.
"Blood" she sobbed, "So much blood." Talbot sent a customer to call for the Watch while he tried to soothe the woman. A few late-night customers looked on.
"There's a dead man at the docks, bleeding out" the woman cried, "It was dark. I stepped in the pool and slipped."
The Watch came and went. The body was found and discovered to be that of Aris Norman, the Mass-Murderer, Thayan Knight, and professed worshipper of the Dread Lord Bane.
"Don't bring that into my inn!" Talbot protested as the Watch returned with their find.
The body was held outside until the High Inquisitor, Vera Gudwerks, arrived and confirmed the identification. "Damn it all. He was wanted for questioning."
The cold body was delivered to the Barren of Retribution, where the priests of Hoar prepared it for burial-at-sea, which had become the Valkur's Roar custom after their graveyards had become haunted with the undead. A stone was tied about the body's waist, a fishing sloop was hired, and a solitary priest presided as the body was released into the calm waters of the dawn.
A courier is sent to Greatgaunt to relay the news that the man who had been banished for slaughtering so many of the town's folk was no more. The people of Greatgaunt celebrated with a picnic.

Aris walks towards the tipsy imp. He enters, nods to Erork and asks if he has seen Butcher. The Half Orc points to a darkened corner were Butcher sits shuffling some cards. Aris then walks towards him and sits at the table as they talk. Aris says âButcher I need your aid brother. I am lost, I need help. I have failed in your old teachings and I have fallen so much. So much has happened over the years and I have lost my way. Please help me to get back on the right path Brother.â Butcher turns his gaze from Aris for a brief moment to hide the pained look in his face. His gaze turns back to Aris. Butcher says âAlright brother I will help you find the Path, you need but follow meâ.
He then leads Aris toward the door that leads outside. Aris grabs Butchers shoulder and tries to give him a hug. In that moment Butcher finds his opportunity. He embraces Aris in a hug as his left hand slides to his belt. In a quick motion he drives a dagger into Arisâs side, up into his lung.. Aris winces then looks at Butcher in a rage, the elf clearly surprised the man still drew breath. He head-butts Butcher violently to keep him at bay. Then unstraps his shield and draws his blade as fast as he can. By the time he turns around he is caught by another slash across the dragon hide armor that covers his chest. Then again another strike slashes across his shield arm as the blood seeps from his side and arm now.
He makes his first strike with his shield. Knocking Butcher off balance for a moment, but Butchers able to dodge a sword slash Aris sent his way. Aris roars in anger and swings as hard as he can, and it connects with Butcher sending magical sparks flying as Butchers wards fight back the impact and send him flying across the room to crash into some tables. Butcher mutters a few quick words and the area around him falls into darkness. A moment later Aris hears a window shatter. Wounded, Aris dashes out to follow Butcher out into the streets of Roar. Butcher was waiting. It all happened in quick fluid motions, Butchers strikes and slashes toward Aris, Aris counters by knocking aside the blades the best he can, as some light slashes and stabs find their way home. He slams his shield into Butcher and makes a slash across the elfs leg cutting deep.
Butcher staggers back and says âShadows keep you my old friend.â Aris raises his sword for a killing blow, Butcher dives forward and rolls between Arisâs legs leaving a deep cut on his inner thigh. Aris had slammed his bastard sword down thinking it had connected, but had only bit the stone road sending fragments everywhere. He spins to track Butcher, and seeâs him simply walking away. He goes to give chase but finds he can't draw breath. He looks down to find Butchers dagger buried to the hilt in his chest. The large mans shoulders shake as he draws a last chuckle and falls to the cold stones of Valkurs Roar. Butcher continued to walk, not looking back.
