Ok...so it took 5 hours and 37 minutes but I've downloaded the 1.67 patch on the Bioware site (the regular Update did not work for me). When I went to the site for this I clicked on the 1.67 next to the HotU listing and I have not clicked on the 1.67 on the others (SoU or NWN) assuming that those are listed based on the expansion one has (if you have NWN + the 2 xps then choose the HotU one for example)... So I have it downloaded...and I go to run it...and it says... "NSIS Error: The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disc, a failed download, or a virus. (*btw...I have the latest anti-virus software so that is not possible*) You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy. It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (NOT RECOMMENDED)." Ok...what now? And what in the name of Gruumsh is an NCRC command?? HELP?? -Scott

HELP?? -Scott Man, I am sorry to hear that. First off, having the latest anti-virus software will not prevent you from having a trojan, or a worm, or anything else that might be maliscious. I just had to do a system restore this evening my self, as I had something on my main computer that seemingly took over my web browser and a couple of other functions. I am not a tech support guy, but you may want to try this: (Print this and try, I make absolutely no garauntees this will work and back up anything you have on your computer that you want to keep, just in case) 1. Turn off your computer 2. Start your computer and tap the "F8" key immediately before and during start-up 3. When you are on the black screen and have options, use your arrow keys (up) to enter Safe Mode 4. Click NO when prompted 5. Use the calender to go back to a safe point on your computer... this could be anytime before you had a virus/maliscious code, and there is no safe bet if that is the case, but try a date you feel comfortable with, like a month ago if need be. But you will lose any programs installed on/before that date if you don't just choose a system checkpoint 6. Click next until prompted otherwise. Once this is done, try repatching. Hopefully this will help, but it is entirely possible this will be no help at all. Otherwise I would say contact your manufacturer, or Microsoft if you still have any kind of warranty what-so-ever. Best of luck man, I feel your pain and hope you can resolve the issue.

so you're saying it's possible that IF something attached itself to the program (the patch) it did it because it took "forever" to download?
similar to a fly coming inside because I stand there with the door open?
I'm running an antivirus scan now and will actually go back to yesterday (when I had no 1.67) and then try and get it on a disc from someone and try that way instead

I am suggesting that you were already infected and this is just a symptom. There is no way to be sure.

I think jumping to the virus conclusion and doing system restore may be a bit much. Seeing as how the error message indicated a number of problems could have occurred that would cause this. A corrupted download file is always a possibility. A patch that doesn't install properly is not typically a symptom of a virus or trojan in your system.
While what Justicar mentioned is a possibility, there are some other steps you can try first. Obviously, you're already doing the virus scan, which is good. The one thing I havn't seen you try yet, is re-installing NWN. It's possible that in one of your failed patch attempts, something got partially installed, and is still in there giving you problems. My advice before trying anything else, would be doing a full re-install of your NWN files, THEN doing the auto-update, and THEN trying the CEP 1.53 patch. Also, if there is a bad sector on your hard disk (I couldn't tell from the error if it was suggesting the hard disk error was related to the patch file, or your initial install) when you reinstall it, it will most likely end up on a different physical sector of your disk, which rules out that possibility.
Try and rule out all of the other things that could be causing problems before declaring it a virus and doing a system restore.
My two cents.

I already sent him a message explaining all I know about CRC (Cyclical Redundancy Checks) ... which isn't too much lol but I told him that he could theoretically edit the path of the install file by putting the /NCRC command at the end of the path name...that way it would bypass the CRC and simply install...but they warn you about this because if it is corrupted in the right ways it could possible screw your NWN up and that would be most unrighteous. If that were tried, and it did screw up...I don't know what there would be left to do. I don't know if you can patch over the other patch in NWN never tried it. Personally I woulda just tried to re-download but I'm don't have to wax my internet to get it goin I hated dial-up and I sympathize with anyone who has to use it. Death to 56K!
