As Simon’s condition begins to slowly deteriorate Henrik’s careful monitoring detects that the boy has been poisoned again! Henrik slowly and carefully looks the boy over trying to solve the mystery and notices something so slight that it escaped his original study of the boy’s condition. There is a small and extremely faint line no more than a centimeter long on Simon’s lower right abdomen. The healer mutters something in Chondathan that sounds like he is chastizing himself for not seeing it sooner "I need two things" He looks at his colleagues "A healer to keep him under and a volunteer to run an urgent message somewhere" He draws a glasssteel scalpel bearing the holy symbol of Ilmater as Simon is prepared and blesses it, preparing to open up the faint line with every prayer and piece of magic at his disposal. His exploratory surgery begins because there is no other choice. The sacred scalpel makes its cut. |

It doesn’t take Henrik long to discover the end of a small silver rodlike object next to Simon’s appendix. However, what steps will the kindly healer take now?

Henrik studies the silver rod carefully, seeing how it is situated he assesses the condition of the appendix and if it is inflamed or on the point of rupture. He looks for edges or seams in the rod, if there is anything attaching it to the organ or it is leaking into the site. |

"What's the message, and where does it go?" Henrik looks gratefully at both Breannah and the healer who stepped forward, one is sent out with one message to a secret recipient while Breannah is sent out with a second message and it is addressed to Sylus Kelton, it reads "Situation urgent, please come to the House as soon as possible - H" |

Henrik’s probing discovers that in actuality the rod is a tube with one end connected to the appendix with a thin strand of what appears to be webbing. The tube’s surface has raised spots as well. The tissue surrounding the tube is an angry red color and worse the strand of connecting material seems to be leaking something into the appendix as the organ is bluish around the site of connection.
It doesn’t take too long before Gordo Shacklesfor, War Wizard, comes striding into the House of Healing. He’s guided to where Henrik is doing the surgery and he raps on the door asking for permission to enter.

War Wizard Shacklesford gazes over the tube his eyes dimly glow behind spectacles enhancing his sight. “This doesn’t have any sort of arcane power to it at all from what I can see,” he tells Henrik, “Do what you think is necessary Henrik. You have my full confidence in your skills.” "Thank you" Henrik nods and prepares to carry out a complete appendectomy "Usually I would take a different approach to an inflamed appendix but I hope to remove everything, tube and organ for evidence" He prepares a container to store both the tissue and the tube and the site of the operation is irrigated with holy water - the skin held back with clamps. Henrik makes sure that the man can see what he is doing as he starts to tie off any blood vessels with curved needles and fine sutures in preparation to remove the appendix and the tube together. "Performing an open surgery like this is not without risks" Henrik continues as he works, focusing "The appendix..we can live without it even if it is healthy - this sickly one will kill him if not removed -but removing it can cause bleeding, infection and more.. whoever did this to the poor child has a particularly twisted and cruel mind.. dying to this is excruciatingly painful" |

How chilling!” Henrik sighs as he places it into the container "I daresay he or she is smarter than I, I've never claimed to be clever..but what use is intelligence if you use it for this purpose?" He focuses on Simon "It's sick, it's child abuse" He quietly shows the War Wizard the awful sight of what lies under Simon's head bandage. He then continues to clean the cavity left by the operation and close up "I assume The Surgeon has another nasty surprise in mind but I will countermove as best I can, Ilmater willing" He pauses "This person knows I will not give up even if I fail" He hands the container to the War Wizard "Please keep it safe as evidence of the crimes against this boy, if you can examine it further and tell me anything of it I would be grateful". |

What is the next step good Henrik?” "Something not pleasant" Henrik speaks after casting Heal on the boy "The bone spikes in the orbits of the eye sockets must be removed, this requires a round bur, bone file and possibly rongeurs to remove loose, sharp bits of bone or any that has been devitalized... using a bone file can result in fractures on uneven jagged bone so I must be careful.. I had hoped to give him some respite first but the situation worsened, it is probably a good idea to do this now while he's still out to minimize the impact" |

We now know this foe is skilled and has laid down a challenge to you in a manner that is horrifying. While I wish the boy to regain what he’s lost I am afraid something worse may occur,” the War Wizard tells Henrik.

A few of the Purple Dragons in the capital direct Breannah to the Red Fellowship near the Horngate. Once inside Holy Strategist Redtide would direct Breannah upstairs to the study where the Swordcaptain is found reading a hefty tome on the etiquette of the tourney field. "Breannah? You aren't here to tell me you've reconsidered joining house Stormcrown are you?" A friendly smile at the jest that fades once he noticed the serious look.

A look of concern before he sets the tome down and makes haste to the house of healing offering a thanks to Breannah on his way out. Once arrived he asks for Henrik and follows to the healer. "What's the status of the situation Henrik?"

Henrik regards the War Wizard silently, weighing up his words and the wisdom of them. He places the smallest bone saw in his arsenal back in its box. The healer exhales slowly and nods "Very well, we will do it your way but I hope that this.." He stops himself from uttering a rare expletive "-person, is caught and the threat is removed then I hope I can restore his sight. Tyr lives blinded and maimed, Simon can live without his eyes and adapt - we will teach him" He pauses looking down at the boy with a heartsick expression "I will have to explain to him that he may never get his eyes back, I just pray he remembers something of use about his ordeal to help catch this individual but for now he deserves rest and recovery from what he's been through" He sighs "I'll make sure his eye wounds are closed and the sockets safely preserved, in the future we may be able to help him...there is always magic, there is always hope" He looks at Gordo again "You know even if I don't restore his eyes, this insanity might still get worse..I'm Ilmatari, I am cynical about these things" As Sylus enters, Henrik updates him on the situation with the appendix, the silver tube with the message and what he has just discussed with Gordo. // davenutninja408 |

All to often adventuring folk dare much and the common people suffer and for what? The pride of constant victory. You may not like it, but I feel you made the best choice for the future of this child.”
The War Wizard walks out before Sylus enters.

Henrik hears the question and answers "Someone who hates youth and innocence and cares nothing for the sanctity of life" He speaks quietly "They see living beings being currency for their own use..you see this with demonic and devilish beings, they have a motive...so do others. Our faith has many enemies, the world is cruel and this is why we are a large and widespread church. I'm uncertain about who this is, the Pain Maiden, the faith of the Vaunted, they both produce skilled, evil minded anatomists and physicians. The storm lord's faith also has motive, they are responsible for the twice martyrdom of St. Sollars" He pauses to refill a pitcher of water "I'm afraid the list is long, it could be a member of any of those groups or someone not linked to any of them - sometimes this kind of evil has no beliefs behind it - all there is is a lack of empathy, a coldness and selfish ego that has no remorse or feeling" |

"I will not falter" Henrik replies with quiet conviction "Believe it or not, I have seen worse than this.. things that still give me nightmares" He rubs his face "War Wizard Shacklesford said there was no arcane magic upon the tube, I hope he takes care examining it..I suspect it was filled with poison. It is possible the eyes are in use, I'm not an expert on scrying but I would not rule out the possibility that the person is scrying the child" He looks over at Simon's bed "I may need to arcane help with this" |

Henrik shakes his head "I simply don't know, I'd have to think carefully about what we do regarding Simon's involvement ..he is very young, whilst children are resilient what trauma happens to them in childhood can have a profound effect in adulthood" He sighs "I must assess his mental state and how I can proceed with questions, I will be honest with him in terms I hope he will understand" He nods to Breannah "We understand, I expect the worst as a matter of course but I always hope for the best even if it seems forlorn at times" |
