Quietly, unobtrusively, she pins the note on the bulletin board of the Regal Griffon. She sends up a silent prayer and then with a small sigh, she turns and walks out, unnoticed.
Zakhary,
Forgive me for leaving so abruptly without a goodbye. My father, however, lay dying and I was called to his side in Silverymoon. In the end, the Lord of new Beginnings called his faithful servant home. I was thankful that I was at his side and I know my father has found peace with his Lord. I, however, cannot boast of such.
There was nothing left for me in the Gem of the North and so I returned to this harshly ruled land. I found myself at the river’s bank absently watching the light of the moon on the water. It was then I turned my face to the moon and prayed…. Prayed to whatever god would listen that our paths would cross.
I knew that you alone would understand. With a renewed resolve, I traveled the old ways, from Isinhold to Everspring, waited, hoped… memories washing over me. Such vanity…
It is amazing how hard peace comes when others engage in silly, childish behavior. Do they understand just how precious life is? Are their petty bickerings and silly taunts worth life so easily lost?
Had they traveled the depths of darkness and despair Talon and I traversed they would know. Still I do not begrudged them their ignorance and petty squabbles. I envy their blindness.
But to the point, forgive me, Zakhary, my truest, dearest friend.
I find I am a coward after all. I must leave and I cannot face you. I go now to seek my Lord again, my faith, or, at the very least my path. Where my travels take me, I cannot say. Perhaps one day I shall return. Though I shall expect nothing from you.
You are strong, my dearest. Trust in yourself, your instincts. And know, that within this vast world there is one whose thoughts turn daily to you, who keeps you in her prayers and only desires the best for you.
The signature is scratched out.
