How many steps removed from the dragon ancestor do disciples need to be? I understand that the second generation is half dragon.. but can an Rdd be the generation thereafter?
(1st Gen : Dragon + humanoid) (2nd gen : Half Dragon + humanoid) (3rd Gen : Disciple?!)
Or would it be further down the line? I've not heard of a 'quarter dragon' which makes me think that 3rd gen can be disciple, but I'd like to check for clarification, and I've not been able to find it.
For clarification: I'm aware that DD's can be hundreds of generations down the line. I'm interested in the ones at 3+. Nothing in source I can find suggest that 3rd gen gets draconic bonuses so it seems to me they would have to awaken it!

The short answer is that 3rd generation should be fine. It wont matter if you're 3rd or 115th generation, you got to go through the same process as the other. That is, awakening your innate dragon heritage. So one doesn't start out with any perks. Short of perhaps looking more exotic on birth: like hair color that reflects parentage, iris color too, and so forth. Traditionally the dragon ancestor is probably down the line a ways, but that's more opinion based and speculation. No true source indicates officially that I have found.
