Cortiana turned to look back into the room. Everything was nice and tidy, just the way things had been when she had rented the room. At times it had felt like a home, at others like a prison. Her gaze wandered over the details of the room before stopping on the single piece of paper that rested on the drawer next to the bed. Her armor let out a slight sound as she shifted her weight and let her helm slip to cover her face. She turned and closed the door.
She held the bottle of wine tightly in her hand as she stepped out of the inn. The pale light of the moon shined on her armor as she lifted the bottle before her, staring at it. Slowly she opened the hand that held the bottle, a crash echoing on the streets as the bottle smashed to the ground. A quiet sigh escaped from the depths of the metal helm.
Slowly the inn began to shrink behind her as she walked past the buildings. She stopped before stepping on the bridge that crossed the river that ran through the city of Redmist. Stood there quietly, her thoughts returning to the single piece of paper and the word written on it. Her gaze wandered over to the moon shining above her as she wrapped the heavy cloak around herself. Then she took a step, then another before sprinting. The metal boots clanked on the streets as Cortiana dashed towards the northern gate. The running figure disappearing into the moonlit night.
The running footsteps thumped on the grass as Cortiana kept on running even after the lights of the city had disappeared. The word written on the paper burning in her mind clear as day. Sorry, that was the only thing she had left to say. Not once did she look back after she closed the door of her room...
