Vampires in Factions! Adventurers Quiet!
By Maggie Thompson
Immersea, Cormyr--Recently meeting with three adventurers who wish to remain nameless, I spoke with them about the vampire crisis. For purposes of this article, they shall be referred to as Mister Lilac, Miss Binder, and Mister Roughneck. The three insisted that I convince them I was not a vampire before they would even speak with me, reporting that vampires have in the past employed methods to pump adventurers for information to determine what is known about their nefarious activities. What I was able to glean from this trio, however, was unsettling.
According to the account of Miss Binder, a vampire approached Mister Light, a friend of hers, and endeavoured to turn him against other vampires, offerring to aid him in doing so. She was revealed to be a vampire but escaped. Miss Binder also reported that another woman was bitten by a vampire and that vampire was destroyed to ensure the woman would not become a vampire herself. This contradicts the generally accepted understanding in Suzail that the bite must be fatal.
Mister Lilac indicated he may have some connection with government entities and was remorse to discuss anything publicly.
Mister Roughneck, suggested to be a druid, was initially against speaking with me at all, but he did say that he knew of someone who was aided by a vampire in fighting other vampires in the Necropolis of Arabel, and that these Arabelian vampires are in service to what he called a demilich, which, my dear readers, I have come to understand is a more advanced form of the lich undead.
The trio agreed that the vampire problem goes far beyond Suzail, stating that vampires have been sighted in Arabel, as previously mentioned, and also in a caravan ran by gypsies. Mister Roughneck also suggested that one of the vampires may be Thayan in origin, saying he had conducted investigations at the Thayan Enclave [at Proskur] into vampire activities.
Mister Lilac did mention that Lord Hezom of Espar has trained his town in the skills of fighting vampires so more news will be forthcoming once I have spoken to Lord Hezom of Espar.
The adventurers were particularly interested in Suzail's own sightings of vampires and I was able to provide them with information I have collected regarding the "wild ones" that roam the streets at night, as well as the bald man, that dark warrior who prowls the streets of Suzail unhindered. With any luck these or other adventurers will come to a resolution to this problem soon. I was led to believe the Purple Dragon Knights may be involved but these adventurers were very clear not to speak on behalf of any official entity of other group.
