It was a beautiful day in Marsember. The sun was out, the skies were clear, and the ocean breezes cooled the brows of people that went about their daily dealings. However, it seemed one dealing happening was not such a daily thing.
A small crowd had gathered at the small gate that lead to the outdoor stage behind the Alizarin Academy. They craned their necks and watched on with amusement as five children, some young as six, another as old as thirteen, quietly propped objects upon and around a sleeping figure. The sleeping half-elven woman herself was propped against a stone wall close to the stage. Her chin drooped to her chest and her hands were folded in her lap that seemed to keep in place some parchments.
When the children seemed to run out of things to prop on the woman, two of them quietly skittered back inside to apparently gather more things. Books, instruments, strange props apparently from the stage. Quill pens, someones boot, a large jar that held a purple frog. Bolts of cloth, a silver serving tray, and four feather down pillows one of which the older child set behind her head.
The woman stirred not an inch, except to sleep and breath, completely oblivious to what was happening to her.
"She must not have any children of her own," an older woman carrying a basket with market bought foods could be heard to say. "Otherwise she'd know to not nap at all with that many children to keep eye on."
The children became aware they were being watched and paused to hesitate only for a moment. When one of the adults watching motioned one of the children over and handed him flowers to add to the pile the conspiracy continued.
Finally when the two oldest hauled out a piano bench, straddled it over the sleeping woman and the pile atop her, one of the children got atop the bench, opened her arms to the small crowd and loudly shouted.
"HUZZAH! IT'S DONE!"
The small crowd laughed and clapped and the clamor of it was enough to wake the woman.
She snorted when she woke, "Whot, whot, oy?...... OY!"
More laughter ensued as the children were already scrambling back inside.
"Whot yeh do ta me yeh... Oy!Get back 'ere yeh lot!... OY!" she tried to get out of the pile, but stopped as she realized the jar with the frog could tip over and break if she did just that. "OY?!?"
The crowd about the gate laughed, snickered, then dispersed as the main show was over. The woman under the pile could only sputter.
"'ey, oy, lend a lass a 'and 'ere..... 'ello? 'ey now get back 'ere will yeh?.... Oy!"
The walking of feet and snickering were the only things heard. And when that faded the woman could only talk to herself.
"...... oy?"
"..... oooh, yeh wee rats 'r SO gonna get it!...... once... someone decides ta rescue me...."
"...... oooooooy!......."
"Oh donna gimme tha' look yeh purple froggy freak. Me only still in this predicament fer yer sake."
"..... 'm gonna give yeh lot till tha count o' ten ta come 'n get me outta this 'r yeh really gonna get it! One! ... Two!"
Later.
"..... ten...."
".... oh 'ells... least me got a pillow...," with that the woman laid her head back and fell back asleep.
