A few questions from a new but satisfied player - if you know a site or forum for this please let me know
1 do i need magic arrows or is a magic bow enough on its own [for those situations] ? 2 what does it mean when a weapon is mighty? 3 is the trident somehow not standard - it cannot be blessed it seeems ? 4 for that matter is the rapier the only one handed peircing medium sized weapon that is standard ? 5 where to get background info for the Hordelands ? 6 are there no horses in this world? 7 need very basic instructions about character customization - like portraits, the biography - how to customize them ? 8 as my character rises in level its getting old following people who rush through places and die alot. i like sneaking around a bit, taking it slowly and surviving...how do i find like minded characters ?
cheers and thanks again sheepdog

OK, here we go...
1. A magic bow should be enough on its own to overcome damage reduction. Bioware kind of mucked up the rules on this a bit from the D&D rules, but the short answer is that the bow is what you need. The arrows just have bonuses to damage.
2. When you use a melee weapon such as a sword, axe, or club, your strength bonus is added to the damage. So a longsword does 1d8 damage. If your STR is 16 then you have a +3 STR bonus and you do 1d8+3 damage with a longsword. (Two-handed weapons add 1.5x STR bonus, one-handed weapons add 1x STR bonus, and weapons equipped in your offhand only receive 0.5x STR bonus.) Your STR bonus is also added to damage dealt by thrown weapons. However, bows and crossbows do not add your STR bonus to damage normally. A longbow does 1d8 damage, a shortbow does 1d6, and so on. In NWN, if a longbow has Mighty +5 then it will add your STR bonus to the damage dealt up to +5. If you only have +3 STR bonus, it will only add +3, but if you have +7 STR bonus it will still only add +5. So the stronger your character, the more Mighty you would want on a bow.
The trident is a CEP weapon, it is not part of the standard weapons set of Neverwinter Nights. You can tell standard weapons from CEP weapons because in their description, on the line that says "base item type:" it will say the name followed by an asterisk. If it is a NWN normal weapon-type there will be no asterisk. CEP weapons may not work with some spells, and feats such as Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, and Improved Critical do not exist for them.
Yes. The rapier is the only medium-sized one-handed piercing weapon. The morningstar does bludgeoning and piercing damage as well. There are weapons in the module named foil that are actually just renamed rapiers. Other one-handed piercing weapons are the shortsword and the dagger. The spear is a two-handed piercing weapon. All bows are also piercing weapons but again, those are two handed.
Not sure on this one. The primary source is the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting but that's a $40 book so I'd suggest checking our Lore of the Lands section for information on Faerun and if that fails Google it. I can type the entry for the Hordelands at a later date if you still can't find anything.
There are no horses in Neverwinter Nights by default. There aren't even housecats by default but the CEP adds those. The next version of the CEP is supposed to include a plethora of horse models, but to my knowledge none of them will be rideable. There are hakpaks to add rideable horses to NWN but I can't speak to their quality and anyway we don't use them here.
The portrait and description are only customizable at character creation.
I don't know how to answer this question except to say you might work to find people who take their characters' deaths seriously. When a person is concerned about death, they play much more cautiously. A lot of players don't respect the first few levels of play because they are trying to close the gap between themselves and everyone else. Look for a person that is more focused on RP than their next level and you might find what you're looking for. It will mean, however, that you will have to spend more time in RP and less time in dungeons.

While I am not an expert I can tell you I've had a hard time finding detailed information as well. I have a Hordeland character, specifically he is Tuigan. There is some decent information in the Forgotten Realms Campaign setting (p. 145) about the Hordelands, but I've not found much more. Try searching on Tuigan hordes or tribes again I havent found much that way either. I think there may be other names to search on for Hordelands but then again I am not the best search person, always takes me forever to find stuff.
There are references to Tuigans in Cormyr history so that is another option.
You can post this question in Many as One's Question Thread in the Lore forum... he may be able to help provide more background.

thanks for the help. and one more question is there a way to access the info about birthplace [the stuff stored on the token you get at character creation] its a great way to start a character story.
I am getting the Hordelands from the link you provided and will also get some of Volos guides.

Sure, just right-click the token you have in your inventory (i.e., the Hoardlands token) and select "Examine"

Other then books, no. I got all that information based on the region discriptions from the Forgotten Realms sourcebook. Other then that the best suggestion I'd have would be to either "google" the region/place your looking for...or a good reference place is Candle Keep - Alaundo's Library..well the whole site in general. Here is the link. www.candlekeep.com

You could also try reading the "Hoarse Lords," the "Jade Throne," and "The Crusade." These books are novel's about the Tuigan Hoarde's invasion of Shoa-Lung and the West. The first two are pretty good. The last one seemed a bit BS to me, but all provide pretty good insight to life on the steepe (Grasslands of the Great Waste). I actually enjoyed the Jade Throne (part 2) and coming from me, that is significant because it is not very often I read a fantasy novel that I dont find cheesy or simply bad. What can I say, I compare all fantasy books to Tolkien and most fall faaaaaar short.

Can I recommend George Martin, his A Game of Thrones is a good fantasy and part is set in the land of the 'horselords" which is like the steppes.
And another question how do i enable information like location - stuff from my profile - on this site ?
cheers

from the quickslot; use your radial dial; then find the examine icon. Then click the examine icon from your quickslot and examine yourself.
*though by no means is this a recommended replacement for not letting a licensed professional examine you on at your annual check up* ;D
p.s. another good place to store info for you to remember is your ingame 'journel'.

And another question how do i enable information like location - stuff from my profile - on this site ? cheers I think you are referring to your profile info here on the forums. Select the profile option at the top of the page and then modify profile. You'll need to use your password to save any changes to your profile. You can add your location, etc.
