Sorry Rich, I recognised the items from the toolset, so I thought they were the generic type (at that time i figured they could be bought in the stores). Didn't know you made them especially for me or I would have kept them. Geeze you must have felt like I slapped ya in the face.
And Kenny: What is a weapon masters threat range with a keen rapier, improved crit? I think that is why there arent any elemental rapiers out there. Critting with a rapier is pretty common (50%). And when you begin to add up how much damage that would be, it ends up being more than 1d6 frost. I'll have to pop in and look at all the rogue/bards running around with the ice pick. Hmmm perhaps it is not as many people running around with an adventurer's longsword (+3 1d6 electrical and 30K cheaper than ice pick).

to watch all the rogues and bards of the server running around with the ice pick, while they settle for a +2 something... I WANNA PROTEST Keetena never used any of such weapons, used bastard and whip - nowadays she uses the silken sash, a whip +2, +1d4 eletrical, + 1 dext. don't generalize!!! DM Usurper now I'm happy, thanks again

a common misconception about the adventurer's sword: it is not +3... it has +3 attack bonus. the +3 doesn't count over into damage. the average result of a d6 is 3,5. so the adventurer's sword has +3 to hit, and on average +3,5 to damage. this and that fact that it's elemental damage, working around dam. red. makes it marginally better than a normal +3 enhancement. it doesn't even compare to the ice pick... the keen rapier does do alot of damage, but it was only given to me because my damage already sucked. jargo is 95% dex based. he has a pathetic starting strength of 14 which has never been raised. all of his damage comes from a belt of giant's strength, his weapon focus and weapon enhancement. before he was given the keen rapier, he dealt less damage than strength based melee warriors much lower level than him. even now with his keen rapier, he still deals much less damage than his peers (cormac and crom [in half-orc shape]) and he's even weaker against undead. the point i'm trying to make is that players able to use the ice pick have had it much easier than anyone trying to use the rapier. i was level 20 when i got my DM item, and i still am. in the 19 previous levels, i never had a rapier do anything other than an enhancement bonus which quickly capped at +3. i'm thankful that DM jurivancer gave me my treasured rapier, and it has helped improve my low damage dice. my point remains that people who have items as powerful as the ice pick don't really have a need for a powerful custom item to make it. that being said i'm still aware of the distinct honor it is to be granted an item by a DM. my comment on the ice pick is only adressing the effeciency of a weapon in combat. also keets: i know you never used a short sword and i think it's cool to see a bard running around with excotic weapons like the bastard sword and whip.

Until now I can't understad how or why you take so much time calculating damage in different weapons, with different properties lol... I say: Greatsword does a loooot damage, if you put keen and elemental +1d 6 -1d10 it does 'ohmygodthisisinsaneyourdoomcarrierIwannarun' Bastard sword does good damage, with weapon specialization it does even better damage, exquisite does 'putthisthingoutomywayyouinsane' Long sword does awesome damage, with 1d6-1d10 damage it's 'yourbastardswordispocketsizedversion' with another property is 'heykidyoucankillkrakenswithjustalittlepatiance' Rapiers and scmitars does damage, with 1d6-1d10 damage and weapon specialization does 'friends please' with keen property and/or improved critical does 'it'snotfairI'llbeanecromancerbeforeIcallmymommy' Clubs, bo, dagger and things alike does a little damage with +1d4-+1d10 damge does 'heythisismyheadyourbrute' with another property does 'I'llgiveyouaswordforchritsmas' Whips does a ridiculous damage, with keen and improved critical does 'youmakemelaugh' with elemental damage 1d4-1d10 does 'heythisstartpainstopplease' with another property does 'notfairnotfairIthoughtwastoroleplay' just teasing you Kenny One way or another all weapons are avaiable to all kinds of players, if a player ask for something over exagerated be certain the dms will not attend, cause will destabilize things - if you have any hope of something different remenber always the fair thing 'put some disadivantage on it' like +1d8 elemental damage, but put in a dagger, I'm not saying it'll pass or some DM will be able to atend you in the next 12 months but be honest is a start

the point i'm trying to make is that players able to use the ice pick have had it much easier than anyone trying to use the rapier. I will concede this point a bit. It is easier to use a weapon that does 1d6+3+1d6(ice) with a threat range of 17-20 as opposed to 1d6+3 with a threat range of 15-20. (isnt there a +2 keen rapier available for purchase?) My only question is: how does your point tie into the original post? Are you saying because we have weapons like the icy blade that we shouldn't be able to upgrade? Cause I do agree with that. But it is at this point a moot point as the DMs have pretty much given in that upgrades will be available in the future. And the adventurer's longsword is 1d8 which averages to 4.5 damage. Not that anyone is nitpicking

no i keep telling you, i have looked in alot of shops and i never ever ever found a decent rapier with anything other than a normal enhancement bonus.
there are only 2 rapiers for sale to my knowledge that do anything that isn't an enhancement bonus, but which is still barely anything at all...
the sembian guardblade: +1 enhancement. +3 to parry skill. +1 deflection AC.
the deflection AC is useless because anyone wealthy enough to purchase that weapon will already have protective gear that offers a deflection bonus.
the other is the quick blade: +1 (or was it +2?). bonus feat: disarm.
while this is useful, it becomes worthless the moment you take the feat yourself.
that's about it for rapiers. no elemental damage. no sleep. no daze. no slaying ability. no keen.
none of these rapiers even excist in any shops... the only rapier i have ever held that has one of these enhancements is the DM granted one.
and i do realise i'm getting off topic.
my original point remains that because of all the potential abuse with the right weapons and properties in the wrong hands will make a character too powerful. the way DMs are currently handling custom items is more balanced.

i admit i use the bow so there is more choices but being evil i can't see them. the 1 merchant that sells them i can't see the bows because i'm evil. but hey gotta live with it. i could swear i've seen more raipers then that.
