Remember it also depends on the character.
A hotheaded and brash warrior will charge on when a scheming wizard will retreat.
But I guess that a player that is willing to kill a character to RP appropriately is not the one who's going to b!tch about that...

Maybe once in a while, the "routine" would be fine.....but everytime something happens? Its getting really old, and it's beginning to become "not fun", especially when it is the same characters shooting their mouths off.... but, no extra XP for avoiding the "RP traps" in Isinhold. I know... It's almost as bad as the "Let's lynch him because he's a Red Wizard routine".... Sadly, there's no way to control this. If someone is absent during an event, oh well. There's the risk of roleplaying. If there's a huge attack on Isinhold and someone notes that there are none of the local protecters there, then its going to look bad. Just like if the same attack happened and an evil Red Wizard was present, he'd prolly get some heat from it That's just the way it is... *shrugs*

Well, the fact of the matter is that you should be on your toes. In PnP, the DMs control your enemies and ARE trying to kill you or hinder you in some way. That's the point of the game. Stay on your toes and outsmart your enemies. It's a lot easier to outsmart ourt enemies when you're in pnp. An orc can be distracted by a thrown stone from one direction while the party attacks from the other or merely sneaks by. Just make sure you DM's keep that in mind and don't simply spawn a killing force. That would be a lot of fun to have the dm stay and possess the villian they just spawned and be ready for some good rp

Aye sometimes I take over bad guys to make things more interesting. For someone that doesn't stand a chance that could be capture and escape attempt instead of death. For someone fighting an easy target the battle may suddenly become a running battle instead of a stand and fight. For people willing to talk it could be demand of cash or offer of a joint venture against another group.
Just spawning stuff and walking away isn't likely to happen here. It's just to boring. No style to it.

*points to DM Richard's post* Yes, that does make for an interesting encounter...even after the character decides to wisely walk away.
