There are several areas of RP that are impossible with the current faction rules.
Rogues cannot commit acts of brigandry (setting up ambush points to rob adventurers), pick pockets, etc...
Banites and Cyrists merely sit and proclaim their evilness to themselves, never able to really act on it
You have the Silver Shields who sit and debate with eachother about the presence of evil before they go to town and share a campfire with that same evil.
I'm referring to player vs. player, of course. I'm not talking bloodbaths here, I don't want to be misconstrued.
A little pvp (not just hack and slash killing eachother- I'm referring to the fine art of pvp in all it's varied forms) is a great addition to any role playing environment.
I was in a PnP game playing an assassin where my target was one of the other players. Let me tell you, that is still to this date the best game I have ever played! The whole thing took place in one city although it ranged all over and never have I seen more note passing to the DM! It was a game of cat and mouse and I wound up making a mistake and losing.
You don't have to lose your character if you are the victim of pvp.
It may simply be a group of rogues appearing from the shadows and demanding some of your gold. What's the worst that could happen? You go on another adventure and make it back and you get the potential for some wonderful RP.
Or perhaps you beat down a paladin if you're evil and raise his dead body after dragging it to your temple for "conditioning".
Or if you're good, you beat down a Cyrist and take him to jail for a few weeks real time. I've spent a month real time havign my assassin (my only pc) in jail. I made more Roleplaying experience during that time than I would have if I had been farming.
The pointless arguing is lame IC and OOC wise. Good and evil will not get along no matter what. They may work together for a common goal, but they will never play nice- now the evil one may act nice to gain what he wants, but when ti becomes publically known, don't expect things to be kosher.
Allowing PVP on this server would be a good thing.
I've seen known evil people walk free becuase politicians don't like conflicts. I've seen polititions simply not care. A banite can walk anywhere he wants while carrying his banner and no one will arrest him.
The Silver Shields make me laugh because there's nothing they can do about any of the evil just as there is nothing the evil people can do to prove their evilness.
Another alternative is to never allow evil PC's on this server. Then the only evil vs. good encounters will be DM sanctioned NPC's. and that works too
Again, Player vs Player is not just Player killing Player.
