Why do certain weapons say such things like:
Damage type: Slashing and Piercing?
I know why RP wise, a Halberd would do that kinda of damage... but in a mechanics sense, how does that work? Like does it roll the damage and half is slashing and half is Piercing? Does each swing switch off the damage type? I've just wondered this because Luthor does crazy damage... and I am worried about if he is doing BOTH damage at the same time.... like say I do... 1d10 damage and get ten damage. Monster A has 10/damage resistance Slashing but no resistance Piercing... will it do all piercing damage and ignore the fact that it could do slashing??? this just baffles me, adn I dont intend to abuse what ever is discovered... believe me i havent the memory or ambition to remember this enough to try to apply it to my combat situations...

This is because the weapon is both sharp and pointy, and represents a danger on both accounts to your enemies. This statistic simply means that the weapon is treated as two different damage types, it doesn't mean that the Damage Dice gets split into two kinds of damages whenever you successfully strike an opponent. Example:I am using a Scythe (has the Damage Type: Slashing and Piercing) against an enemy that wears a belt of 5/- Damage Resistance to Piercing Weapons. If I hit my enemy, he will still get hurt even though my weapon is Piercing and he's wearing a defensive belt against piercing weapons. However, my weapon is also treated as a Slashing weapon, so in this case, the Piercing damage type of my weapon gets overridden by Slashing damage type, hence it does damage. This is, of course, quite a neat little feat for a weapon to have, but there aren't many weapons with that kind of Damage Type, anyways. Clarified? Cheers, DM Bassa

Yah... just kind of broken IMO. I feel like I am taking advantage of something that shouldnt be taken advantage of...

Yah... just kind of broken IMO. I feel like I am taking advantage of something that shouldnt be taken advantage of... the payoff is that, the majority of those weapons have a 20/x2 critical, from what I remember.

A pike does 20/x3... with imp. critical it makes it 19-20/x3... and isnt there a weapon that actually does x4 crit?!?!

Scythe, off the top of my head.
{Edit} Also... a pike is only a piercing... isn't it? I can't imagine slashing with a weapon meant to stab.

They dont have "pikes" in NWN... but a Halberd and pike are similar enough. But yes a Halberd can be used as chopping weapon and a Stabbing weapon... and No, Halberds/pike only do x3 crit

....apparently, you've never seen a pike. It's similiar to a stick. Except the end is sharp and pointy. You stab things with it; generally horses and mounted knights. It's closer to a spear than anything.
