Wow !!! That looks ... TERRIBLE!!!
Don't get me wrong, I love Doom. Heck, I used to play doom and doom2 4 player, multi-player. But video games rarely make good transitions into movies. I can list a few: Super Mario Brothers, House of the Dead, Resident Evil.
But this movie might be great. Who knows. But I bet it will be better if you have a mind altering drug in your system.
I just can't wait till I see the Rock doing the circle of doom around the cyber demon.
Heck, it would be awesome to see him pick up a rocket launcher and fire a few at the giant goat head (which incidently if you turn on clipping mode, is john romero's head, and if you don't know who john romero is, you can't call yourself a doom fan).

i'm confused... is it a low budget sci-fi movie, or a game? either way, it doesn't look very impressive. no offense doom lovers...

I can list a few: Super Mario Brothers, House of the Dead, Resident Evil. Resident Evil didn't suck, it wasnt great but was an entertaining movie. What did you want from a movie based on the game? Other videogame to movies that didnt suck were Mortal Kombat - the first one, the sequel wasnt nearly as good. And I know I am going to get flack for this one, but Street Fighter the movie was worth watching, especially when you consider it had to over come being both a videogame movie and a Jean-Claude movie. It had two strikes against it before it even hit the theatre but was still entertaining. For the most part, the casting put actors in roles that you would believe were their video counterparts - even though they ruined my favorite character - Blanka. He was supposed to be an evolutionary through back from a South American jungle, not a genetic manipulation experiment. And of course the anime market made many video game based OAVs and movies - most of which sucked. Fatal Fury transitioned into a good movie (started off slow, but each movie was better than the one before it.). One OAV that let me down was Dark Stalkers. My favorite fighting game turned video turned out to be horrible. (granted I only bought the first tape and gave up on the series) Even though I am defending video-game related movies, I will hold judgement of Doom until I see it. But I don't have my hopes up for it. And to get a little off topic - Remember how the DnD movie sucked? Who greenlighted that piece of garbage and thought a Wayan Brother would make a great lead in it?

Right off the bat the Doom trailer isn't true to the game.
It says the Mars research facility discovers the last 10% of the human genome. The Mars Research Facility should be trying to perfect space travel through intradimensional gates, hence how they open a portal to Hell.
I do think it is "neat" how they show so much of the trailer in first person perspective but I hope they don't overuse that in the movie. I would have preferred if they had named the characters things like Green, Indigo, Red, Blue, Yellow, White, etc. That would be more like the old Doom games where in multiplayer you were assigned names by the colour it assigned you. The lead character would of course be Green. As for The Rock, he has the physical build for the role of the lone Space Marine and he's not a bad actor from what I've seen of him, so it will probably come down to how good his lines are and how convincingly he can say them.
I liked both the Resident Evil movies and the first Mortal Kombat movie. I haven't seen both Tomb Raider movies but thought the first one was mediocre. Street Fighter the Movie was just bad. Don't lie, it was bad. I don't think it was Jean-Claude VanDamme's fault though, I think it was mostly due to very bad writing. Street Fighter II the Animated Movie, on the other hand, was quite good. Alien vs. Predator doesn't count as a video game-to-movie because it was a comic book series first. It would have been a better movie if they had been more true to the comics.
I admit I'm curious to see how they do Metroid. I heard John Woo was involved with Metroid but I just can't see how that would be good because Metroid doesn't strike me as the same kind of "feel" as John Woo material, and John Woo hasn't exactly had a good track record with American movies. His Hong Kong movies are good but Mission Impossible 2 is just bad. Tom Cruise is not Arnold Schwarzeneggar.

In regards to DnD the movie...
They weren't aiming for the DnD nerds. They knew that it would be physically painful to watch for us. But by adding the Wayans brothers they got people who don't usually play PnP to hear about DnD and see the glamourous-ness of it all. I saw the movie before I played DnD. Being a Fantasy buff I saw it and realized it sucked and for some reason I didn't yet know, it just gave me a pang of... wrongess. But it was like a big "HEY DND IS STILL AROUND AND KICKING" declaration, and with the Wayan's brothers it got peoples attention.
((Little did they know, most people [stereotype] who enjoy the wayans brothers and dont already RP, are tomorrows Power gamers... just to rely on the norms of personalities

I watched about 3 and a half minutes of the D&D movie, and I still feel guilty. I actually used to watch the D&D cartoon on CBS Saturday mornings religiously, and I feel even guiltier. Bear in mind, I was about 10 at the time, but sheesh, heh. I did hear there is supposed to be a new D&D movie that actually might be ala' LTOR... anyone hear this too? Now Castlevania the Movie... I am making that one in my basement right now, and you are all invited to be cast members... until I whack you! Typically people take off until I run out of the substances Hrothgar mentioned above, but hey, whatcha gonna do? ;D Since nobody wants to hear the rest of my diatribe, I will be working on the module with the rest of the slaves... I mean gnomes.. I mean, er, slave gnomes. Alright.. I admit it, I am NOT making Castlvania the Movie... but I am sure it is laying in a warehouse in Hollywood somewhere... much like the Lost Ark of the Covenant.

Now, the question is ... will the new conan game be any good and will they make another movie from it.
And the D&D movie, the only thing i have to say is: Only a stupid dm would make the two main characters rogues ;D Wait hroth and vind are rogues ... I call being the Wayans brother Vind!
ANd a disclaimer. When I say these movies sucked, I mean that they were so bad they were good. I dont know how I can enjoy such a painful experience knowing that deep down inside, somewhere, some people were hurt through the process of this film being made.
And i am still waiting for some fool to ruin zelda by making it into a movie. Granted the cartoon RULED! But thats cause I was a kid when it came out.

I did hear there is supposed to be a new D&D movie that actually might be ala' LTOR... anyone hear this too? There is a DnD 2 , Its called Elemental might/Wrath of the dragon god and buries the first ( which wasnt that hard to do ) It has much more different monsters , more magic and our heroes party is much more diverse than in the first movie.. A female barbarian , A Gnomish rogue, a human cleric , a human warrior/paladin ,and a VERY accomplished elven sorcerer . Bruce Payne is the bad guy again ..only thing that ticks me a little bit is the black dragon that breathes fire . But MUCH better than the first imo. Heres the link to it imdb.com/title/tt0406728/

Raise your hand if you never played the first ever Legend of Zelda on the NESS! I sure have! Most everyone in my age group did, unless you were like really, really, Etheopian-type poor... and now, I feel super-duper old. "Wonder twin powers activate! Form of an old crotchety DM... Shape of a Weeble-Wobble"!!! Yeah, most of you have no idea what I rambling about. Which is fine, cause I don't have a massive understanding of Japanese Anime, or deep internet text lingo. OBGYN, WTYMAMA Ah, NESS... sweet. ;D

castlevania is still the greatest gaming series ever (until it was ruined by symphony of the night, and other non-belmont oriented titled). i also heard somewhere that theyre making a castlevania mod for nwn. should be awesome. i hope

i own the D&D movie and have watched it multiple times, now you know where I get my evilness from. Looks like it comes out on 10/25/2005. you can preorder it from Wal-Mart now...now that's the real monster they should be fighting, anyways... god o god i wished paris hilton would have secured a role in the movie like originally planned. She'd never see the pink sword that stabbed her. I think the 2nd movie is straight to video/dvd, but there already making a 3rd one that's supposed to be legit and big budget...we'll see. I doubt we'll ever see Conan, I read the script, pretty basic, but without Arnold..why bother. I suspect Doom with be bout the same level as the tomb raider movies...of course with the girls drooling over the Rock instead of us over Jolie, course then again I suspect a few girlies drooling over her as well...which is cool, just keep the People's struedel away from me.

Symphony of the Night is one of the best Castlevania games there is. What's wrong with you? :-P It directly ties into the plot of Dracula X and relates to the plot of Dracula's Curse (Castlevania III). So you play as Alucard? Big deal. You want to play as Richter Belmont, beat the game with Alucard then create a new game and type Richter as your playername. He doesn't level-up like Alucard does but the game "scales" to accomodate him. I bought a PlayStation just for SotN just as I bought my Gameboy for the Castlevania GBA games. Far and away superior to the 3D Castlevanias they've tried to release, and two of the 3 Castlevanias on GBA do feature Belmonts in the lead (though one of those is the worst of the three--Circle of the Moon).
Harmony of Dissonance features Juste Belmont and Vampire Killer (the whip) but the Aria of Sorrow (which is set in 2037) doesn't feature a Belmont in the lead (that I know of) and also has Castlevania appear above a shrine in Japan. Plot is that that castle was summoned so many years after Dracula's defeat during an eclipse so that someone could gain the powers of Dracula and become him but the lead character (Soma) goes into the castle looking for the shrine-keeper's daughter that disappeared inside and he's began gaining some power over Dracula's minions so he's an adversary of the person seeking all of Dracula's power. Soma may be a descendent of Alucard but I haven't finished the game so can't say for sure. Harmony of Dissonance and Aria of Sorrow are both good but I think I like Aria of Sorrow's gameplay better. (It is more similiar to Symphony of the Night.)
They're making the sequel to Aria of Sorrow for DS but I don't plan to pick-up a DS so I guess I'll miss that one.

sounds like a bad story to me ... now, i dont know about you but i dont think castles should be hovering about the skies 3 billion miles away from where they were built. i could deal with his castle magically rebuilding . theres just something about it being a UFO that abducts people that loses me ... ::shrug:: i was happy with lament of innocence. held true to the originals (mostly castlevania 2, the greatest castlevania ever .. EVER!), the plot didnt involve airborne castles, and the whip looked awesome in motion. now, castlevania 64, that is a game that was exactly like castlevania 1, but in 3d. also, the hero had an awesome name. reinhardt. thats just awesome. none of this soma cruz crizzap.

The Japanese have some very strange mythology sometimes. I just took Aria of Sorrow as being more closely tied to Japanese lore. Castlevania usually appears every 100 years anyway, so who is to say some Japanese arcanist couldn't summon it during a lunar eclipse.
And yes, Simon's Quest is the best ever. The only thing I didn't like about Simon's Quest (and I LOVE Simon's Quest) is the "battle" with Dracula. It isn't so much a battle as Dracula appears and Simon whips him a couple times and he is destroyed. (I can't remember now if it was the whip or if you had to use one of the other items but whichever it was, I know you just did it a couple times and that was that.) Of course I think I got the bad ending the couple times I beat it so maybe that wasn't quite that.
I played through Castlevania 64 and it was pretty good but I always felt that they could have done more with it. Castlevania 64 was too short though. That's my main complaint with it. 10 levels? What? A friend of mine had Castlevania Legacy of Darkness (the second N64 Castlevania) and it recycled the some of the levels and used them in different ways, plus you played as a werewolf. Basically Castlevania 64 and Legacy of Darkness should have been one game instead of split into two. (In addition to using some of the same levels differently, they were also set at the same time and plot-related. You could unlock Reinhardt and the girl as playable characters in Legacy of Darkness.)

The Castlevania games are classics. Next you'll be saying that any movie in Black & White is no good and they should just remake them all for modern sensibilities. You'll say Ben Affleck should play Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon with Michael Clark Duncan as Kasper Gutman and Cameron Diaz as Bridgette O'Shaunessy. Blasphemy!
It's really a tragedy that the new generations don't watch the older movies and the same trend is developing in video games too.
