i used to play on this one server. it actually had a rule about gay chars.
something like, please keep in mind that this is a PG 14 server. lesbians and homosexual men are very rare in faurun and can't expect much acceptence from the public.
so all in all between the lines i could sense that the DMs werent opposed to the topic but they didn't wanna let it get out of hand either, and did remind the players not to get any funny ideas on a server where kids play too...
i don't like the idea of a lesbian invasion of cormyr very much either. to turn this topic in a slightly different direction, let's look at some of the religions:
i know sune and sharess are both open minded religions and alot of the things their servants do are considered taboo. certainly no sunite would ever be opposed to a relationship between two people of the same sex if they claimed to be in love. sharess tells her servants to explore the world and find new sensations, so there isn't much taboo in that religion either.
then there are religions like the triad, or helm. all lawful deities, their servants upholding the law and trying to ensure common descency in public. one might think such people were to consider same sex relations taboo.
bottom line: i say keep it descent and if you're gonna play a gay char, then keep the PG limit in mind. apart from that, just have fun with it. i had a gay char hit on jargo once and i thought it was hillarious to try and fend him off (he was very persistant, i had to give him some old-fashioned sleep medication before he'd stop following me around) ... ;D as long as it's ic and all in good fun, and not in violation of the PG, or offensive to anyone, i say relax and have fun.

Exactly, It's best things like this weren't introduced, but it's how they feel they can identify their character... who're we to say no? If they roleplay it maturly, we as players should respect it OOC (though the DM's don't need to accept it *shrug*)... But they need to see that certain peeople WILL react in a negative way, whether spurred but OOC feelings or not... but they need to respect the negative people's chars from an OOC perspective the same way that we need to respect their chars OOC.
But Ideal Roleplay isn't something everyone can do... so Let's just cross our fingers and hope it works out...
((btw I am taking that wick thing as quote Rav lol))

bottom line: i say keep it descent and if you're gonna play a gay char, then keep the PG limit in mind. I think that's a general rule overall, hm? If you play any character with any sexuality, keep it PG/PG-14. I'm not thinking we're any more likely to get our IC freak on by the fireside than IC straight pairs. ;D Anywho~ Spooks, what you said about identifying with the character -- that's just it, and that's why I was so frustrated when lesbians were out-and-out banned on the one server. I mean, this is what I live, and this is what I know, and I think that all characters we create must come from inside ourselves, and our own personal experiences (to a greater or lesser extent -- how else would we give our characters humanity, if it was not borrowed from ourselves?) So, I don't see playing a straight female as a character option, any more than most of you would playing a gay male. It's a comfort thing for me, even if it's trouble for my poor character. So it goes. Thanks to everyone who handled this so maturely.

lol Well it's ok to roleplay, just not natural. So I find it a bit of a challenge... just not the kind I'd prefer... *shrug* but she's the character I have the best/most RP with.

Not to be a fuddy duddy, but if the DM's dont like people of same sex getting married... I am pretty sure you won't be getting married... So I don't think it smart to say something like that when it's nto true

So I don't think it smart to say something like that when it's nto true bah, they can get married if they want. you don't have to have some big DM gala to get hitched...hasn't anyone seen Natural Born Killers? they swapped rings on a bridge, and voila! one knot officially and crazily tied! anyway, I say knock yourself out with all this stuff...I mean it's not like any of the straight couples are getting it on at the campfire, they are just "a couple" so who cares who says they are together. just don't get it on at the campfire ;D

What I meant was, if for some strange reason the DM's said, "No Homosexual relationship will be allowed in FRC." Then technically she couldn't RP her and her significant other being a couple without risking being in alot of trouble.
I don't think the DM's will do this, but they do have the right to say things like that, and I wanted to make sure she knew that they can always say no.
No offense or snippiness meant, just hard to set a tone of voice in text.

Actually from what I understand of what I have read, Sune and Sharess are two god's that don't care about this. Sune is about Love, if that love happens to be between two people of the same gender then so be it, it's still love. Sharess doesn't care because she's about (oh I can't remember the word right now, but lust frivolity and various other things like that) (feel free to put in the right word and delete that part one of Y'all DMs) and if I remember right from the sourcebooks Sunites and sharessans have lovers of both genders. but it still seems that female/female relationships are more common than Male/Male. Fearun has sort of a modern look on this subject if I remember everything right. Homosexuality isn't disdained but it isn't advocated either. And of course there is the various gods I'm sure some are against such relationships, and differing Character perspectives. So I would have to say that socially in fearun homosexuality isn't looked down on. Also I would have to back up justi and juri (like they need it mind you ) on this, you don't know who is on the other end of the computer lines so use common sense. On a side note, sorry I can't get in game right now everyone I want to RP with you all but my pings are running at 500+ constantly and I don't have the new CEP version because of some glitches I heard about in it. I'm also really busy with work and various other things. I hope I can get back in game more often as it get's cooler and our lines run faster and smoother. anyways hope to see you all in game sometime soon, laters.
