Works settling again, and I'm looking forward to the level 1 deluge that's supposedly coming January of next year to FRC.
I have a bit better understanding of my character Dot d/b/a Dorothy Popplebottom aka the hostess with the mostest, and am reaching out to the community for their personal feedback and creative input.
Some history on Dot.
Dot was actually my first ever character for D&D and NWN way back when nwn came out.
She made her debut on TSM as a cleric (because my two friend irl had halflings and needed a cleric) with a sling and shield; cleric of Luvy Wuvy to be exact... of course that changed to cleric of Torm seeing as setting and DM intervention.
Thanks to player and DM patience alike, I eventually grew to love the setting and rp and characters etc. From there I grew from Dot to Angelo Sovereign cleric/pali (with 16 int as the highest ability point, yep didn't know mechanics in the least) of the Golden Lions (a predecessor to Tal Leonhart). Dot though was where it started.
Flash forward... has it been... how many years? Holy crap. Well, here I am on FRC, and back Dot comes into the foreground.
FRC Dot was initially a low charisma low wisdom Warhammer wielding barbarian or rogue/fighter... don't remember. She kicked goblin arse and had (in her mind) territorial disputes with other well known barbarians with long black hair and strong accents. Strangely, enough the people loved her ooc sure, but IC too? How could this perverted little munchkin who essentially peeping tom'd peoples butts win the hearts of the people? With that thought in mind I remade her, this time with... 12 charisma, and eventually 14. At some point I lost the point of Dot, trying to tailor her to positions/situations/groups that really wasn't all she was. It didn't help that work was overloading me that she became more of an escape rather than a character. I did learn a few things about what I liked on her though.
1) For sure, that wisdom is staying 8. That's a given.
2) I loved the Warhammer, it was her, smiting shins and breaking toes of her foes. I'd like to use it again with some effectiveness but not to the same level as her first incarnation. It's too min-max with the basest of strength (because halfling strength) and she needs some of the other abilities to be her essentially.
3) At one point she was a dex slinger and I loved it. One would think that it would be difficult to grow and level a character on a full dex rogue, but somehow she always managed to create a fellowship of the day.
4) Before I lost what was essentially Dot, I did plan to dual wield with a whip in one hand... because if you really think about it, how else could Dot say "Wpish -wpish!" without a whip in hand? It would just be weird if she didn't.
How that would blend together I don't know for sure, but I have a general idea. She won't be great, but she'll be good. Which is just fine for me.
With that in mind, here's what I know. Dot is unwise. Dot is kind. Dot is charismatic. Friendship is one of the first things, food and hearth is next, and lastly but not least... is butts. But in all honesty, she seemed to grow out of butts towards the end.
Is she a rogue? Yes, especially with a sling and whip. Rogues are so 'every guy' that it works... like batman. Hm. .... yes. She's Batman.
Is she a fighter? I don't know... but I don't think so?
Is she a barbarian, not sure... but probably not. Halfling communities tend to be lawfully inclined and as much as she might think she's a rebel, she's really just mozzarella. A speedy mozzarella moving 10% faster than most.
Is she a bard? Not a great one, but there's certainly that artistic aspect of her. Fake it till you make it. So possibly. Also relatively general Jane of all trades so there's that.
Is she a cleric? Honestly she could be, especially since her patron is Cyrrollalee (especially with a name like that), but for sure she would be an 8 wisdom cleric... so maybe not, because she embodies the faith, but not necessary leads the faith.
Is she a druid? No. I pity the forest that is entrusted to her. Word to a certain hin druidess that enjoys Whim's wacky tobaccy.
Is she a monk? Maybe? But she would really be at the bottom of the list in ranking of local hin fists.... a monk wielding large fans? Maybe. I don't know, I'll leave that to you.
Is she a paladin? Could be. She's good at heart. But then again she's more likely to help a friend in need, even if that friend might not be the ideal person.
Is she a ranger? 50/50. Loves animals, and by animals I'm leaning towards dogs and squirrels. Dot the Halfling Rider? It's a possibility. Although a ranger seems to me to be more of a survivalist and she mostly just gets by on the hin luck, and the kindness of others. Food for thought.
Is she a sorcerer? No, there's depth to those characters, to me they are akin to planes walkers.
Is she a wizard? No. Just... no.
So the above is something to mull over for what Dot is basically. If you tend to lean in a certain direction, I'm all ears.
Now... the above aside, there is the possibility of a prc and unfortunately warslinger or halfling rider isn't something available. So let's go over the options.
Arcane Archer. Elf say what? No. That's what elf says.
Assassin? No.
Blackguard? See assassin.
Champion of Torm? Well this one is a pretty damn strong possibility. In every sense she is a champion of Cyrrollalee. I'm leaning towards 70% yes on this.
Dwarven Defender? She wishes. No really, she wishes.
Harper Scout? No, although who would suspect Dot? Unfortunately for our heroine/Cormyr's Fashion Icon, you have to fake being unwise for espionage... not actually -be- unwise. She'd make a great mark though.
Pale Master? See blackguard.
Purple Dragon Knight? Very situational. Her heart is in the right place, but does she have what others have that serve? I'm not sure. Also something interesting to note, Halflings don't have nobility which to me is just above PDKs.
Red Dragon Disciple? Honestly I saw it as a possibility. *shrug* but that backpack though. *Predatory eyes shine in the dark underbrush, there is a strong possibility that your butt will receive a fanged bite.* "Rawr rawr rawr".
Shadowdancer? Maybe, I liked the lore that they travelled in troupes, companionship ic and ooc . unfortunately they see to be very solo from what I've seen. Honestly don't know the depth of the class ooc that much.
Shifter? Form oooof... "that bench Sylus usually sits on." *plays the waiting game* But, see druid. Also it's Dot, so.
Weaponmaster? Maybe? I've always felt weapon masters needed more wisdom to them, something the class doesn't have a mechanical requirement for. It's a bond and a connection that is semi spiritual. But that's just me, and Dot's more all over the board than a one thing pony.
In Summary, Dot is a lot of things. She is most certainly a generalist, a team player, has a *chickenwing*-ton of sheer luck (rpwise), and a heart of gold.
Thanks for listening, I look forward to reading your thoughts and your partnership.
Cheers
PS I would love to see if anyone has pictures to include on how they perceive her. I was leaning towards a younger Leslie Knope, Kinda funny how close that is.
PS could this have gone in the crunch? No. Because it's not about the best, it's about the general
