Rumours rarely travel all the way to Marsember from the sleepy village of Blustich, a small hamlet barely worth adding to the maps east past the Hermit's Wood, but the occassional travellers that came that way recently seem to actually have news from the middle of nowhere!
Apparently, a few weeks ago, an old chestnut tree that used to stand in the middle of the village square simply disappeared in the middle of the night, roots and all, only a big, gaping hole hinting to the fact it was ever there to begin with. According the village elders, the ancient tree had always been there, even before the village had been founded. Some of them claim the tree was blessed by the Earthmother and had at times born chestnuts in winter when food was scarce even. A passing by mage the villagers had inspect the site of the incident supposedly spoke of sensing the faintest aura of an old druidic curse, but couldn't seem to be able to tell much more. Speculation abounds among the villagers as to what happened! A sign of Chauntea's disfavour? A trick by one of the other hamlets jealous of their rich nut harvests? Maybe the ghost of the Hermit of the Woods himself had whisked the tree away to punish them!
