Just wanted to send a formal PM following up our texts regarding the Seldarine and who is a part of it on FRC.
There are players referring to and hearing about elven gods that were introduced later either as DnD members of the Seldarine in various publications.
With the amount of new players, and specifically players of elven characters, I think it would be a good idea to clarify if these newer Seldarine members are recognized on FRC.
In further discussion, NHMikey asked about Alobal Lorfiril, Elabrin Liothiel, and Vandria Gilmadrith specifically. He noted references to these gods and others in Races of the Wild and Dragon Magazine (155, 236, and 251).
I was also asked recently by another player about another elf deity that is listed in the FR Pantheon in 5th edition but doesn't appear in any 3.0/3.5 edition material. I forget the name.
DM’s Munroe, Hoary Hunter, and I collaborated to answer the question.
The FRC Campaign is firmly rooted in the 3.0/3.5 edition D&D and Forgotten Realms. Third Edition source material will prevail over that of other editions.
The Races of the Wild sourcebook has the right D&D edition but is not Forgotten Realms material. Some of the articles in the Dragon Magazine issues NHMikey referenced hint at being linked to the Forgotten Realms but they predate the Third Edition Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting.
The Forgotten Realms cosmology is different between 2e and 3e. In 2e, Forgotten Realms and all its gods were still part of the Great Wheel cosmology, and had alliances with deities that weren't worshiped as deities in the Forgotten Realms. In 3e and 3.5e, Forgotten Realms is much more isolated from the Great Wheel cosmology and uses the World Tree cosmology instead, a cosmology that is unique to Forgotten Realms.
The 3rd Edition Forgotten Realms Cosmology is different, redefined, and spelled out from previous editions. Further, it is distinct, separate, and more isolated from that of the rest of the D&D universe making crossover very limited.
There are gods in the D&D universe that are not part of the Forgotten Realms Pantheons. The Seldarine are on other worlds and in the planes, but only those who have been allowed to migrate into the Forgotten Realms by AO comprise the FR Elven Pantheon and are worshipped by elves in this setting. The FR Elven Pantheon deities are listed in Faith & Pantheons specifically and we maintain a list of these here:
