Hi, I've noticed that the mechanical buffs granted by tithing seem (to me) to have a short duration such as to be largely irrelevant, and any other effect that tithing has seems to be in the background, which makes me curious if giving tithes at shrines is something that exists purely as a roleplaying option?
As someone with an interest in getting some alignment shifts, and considering that tithes to a god probably have practical effects in serving that god's cause, are they something that can result in alignment shifts? Is that something I could reasonably ping a DM about? If a PC throws away a fortune to support a church, is that something the DMs would be aware of on their own?
Of course, it's still a fairly useful tool for roleplaying regardless.
The next person to make a thread here, please add "and Alignment" to the title regardless of how appropriate it is so we can keep this chain going.

The tithing system on FRC does not shift character alignment. The best way to make sure your roleplay of shifting away from an alignment on your character sheet is noticed, and increase its likelihood of actually impacting your alignment, is to send a PM request to a DM (or two or three, multiple included DM recipients on PMs are not a bad thing!) to note your efforts to change alignment. The DM Team has an entire sub-forum dedicated to tracking character alignments, but your character's alignment is more likely to be monitored if you request that it be monitored, and you're substantially more likely to receive shifts if we know you're actually trying to receive shifts. (Unless you're playing grossly outside of your character's listed alignment. Then DMs may notice and start tracking your character's alignment anyway.) As for tithing, it's a roleplay tool. However, it does offer one mechanical benefit. Tithing is one of the ways a character can earn more "piety," a hidden numeric value that DMs can view, and that can be incorporated into scripts on FRC. Please don't encourage people to mis-name their DM Q&A threads. The main thing is that they remember to include "DM Q&A" at the start of the subject line.
