Welcome!
The quality of every player’s FRC experience is very important to us whether in the forum or in game. Therefore we must require community members to help support FRC’s atmosphere by honoring our rules. Logging into the FRC NWNEE Server is consenting to follow FRC’s rules.
The DM Team will address players who break the rules. Disregarding the server rules will result in temporary or permanent loss of playing privileges on the FRC Server.
To help demonstrate the importance of FRC's rules, DM Richard (Retired) shared these thoughts.
FRC Server Rules
1. The Golden Rule of FRC - The main rule on FRC is to have fun, but not at the expense of others. Be kind to your fellow roleplayers. Remember that the other characters are real people behind the screens of their own computers. It is unacceptable on FRC to harass or abuse other Players or Staff.
2. Use Common Sense - Ridiculous behavior is not acceptable on FRC. Characters should be played as a real person living in the world of our campaign setting. Use common sense and civility in game.
3. Do your best to remain In Character at all times - Try to act as though you are playing the role of a character in a book or movie. You (through your character), now live the life of a person in a high fantasy setting. Please use language consistent with a fantasy role-playing environment and classical literature. Realism in all (or at least most) things is encouraged and rewarded on FRC. Consistent out-of-character behavior will be addressed by Staff.
4. No use of foul or abusive language or swearing - There are lots of people who don't like reading these kinds of words and consider them offensive. Don't use them. Please remain civil and relatively sane at all times. Becoming abusive to fellow players or DM's is not acceptable on FRC. Remember that minors are welcome to play on FRC as well.
5. The act of rape is an offense that will result in immediate and permanent loss of playing privileges.
6. Cybersex and Torture are to be used only with consent from all players involved - These acts are discouraged on FRC but not disallowed. Please keep cybersex in tells and make sure both parties are 100% comfortable with this type of roleplay. Also make sure that all parties involved are adults according to their respective local laws. Keep these acts in private areas as FRC does have minors playing.
7. Do not metagame - Metagaming is the act of using Out Of Character (OOC) information or means to give your Player Character (PC) and unfair advantage. It is a form of cheating. Some examples of metagaming are:
- Using out of character ((OOC)) information to have your character learn details of a situation, another character, ect.
- Using floating text to "know" a character before they have met.
- "Knowing" exactly what creature will spawn where in a dungeon and exploiting this fact.
- Sharing information between alternate characters that you play.
8. Do not log out while your character is dead, dying, or to avoid death or another unfavorable consequence - Please re-spawn, then log out if necessary. If you must leave your keyboard for more than a few minutes while dead go ahead and respawn.
Should your character die and have no surviving party members committed to a rescue, the character must Respawn. Do not linger while dead in the hope that someone will wander by and come to the rescue. Don't send tells or contact other players for rescue as this is metagaming (see rule 7).
If an entire party is killed everyone must respawn. Do not respawn and return to rescue the other members of your party.
If you crash while dead and return to the game more than a few minutes later, please respawn immediately upon logging back into the game.
If your character is petrified and there is no hope of rescue (see Petrification Persistence), the character must respawn. Lingering while petrified in the hope someone will come to the rescue is disallowed, and waiting until a server reset will result in being petrified in the Welcome Room.
9. Do not exploit the game's mechanics or cheat - Cheating and Exploiting are not acceptable on FRC. Cheating and Exploiting include but are not limited to Twinking, Muling, Griefing, Ninja Looting, Merchant Pinging, Transition Hopping or otherwise exploiting the game engine. The use of haks or overrides to introduce illegal characters into the module will result in immediate and permanent loss of playing privileges. Anyone caught cheating will be subject to the loss of playing privileges.
"Twinking" is when you give items or gold to lower level characters, especially when shared between your own characters and accounts. Do not Twink between your characters through another PC or Merchant PC. Twinking also includes selling an item to a character for a ridiculously low price. See expanded rules for Player Character Merchants for more information. Twinking can also include "Excessive Buffing."
"Excessive Buffing" can take place when a higher level character buffs a lower level one who is going off alone or in a separate party. Limit the buffs to one or two spells of a spell level and benefit on par with the recipient's level. For example, a high level cleric wishing to provide buffs to a low level fighter shouldn't provide Deathward or Greater Magic Weapon. Deathward is beyond a low level character's ability to cast and a high level GMW spell provides a numeric benefit beyond low level capability. Keep it reasonable to one or two low powered buffs.
"Muling" is a similar offense to Twinking, except that it takes place when you hold items for another player wishing to rebuild or remake their character. Do not Mule between your characters through another PC or Merchant PC.
"Ninja-Looting" is going into an adventure area and collecting loot while avoiding the creature spawns. It is not necessarily sneaking through a dungeon in stealth but could also be using invisibility.
"Free XP Gains" is going into an adventure area and allowing a summon or another PC to fight most of the battles with little to no risk to your own PC. This includes but is not limited to standing in stealth or invisible while your PC earns XP effortlessly, behind a wall, or far back from the group. Using invisibility and stealth in fights is okay for escapes, or pre-emptively before a battle but PC's should not be standing around raking in free XP from the work of other players or summons with no risk to themselves. The key here is "no risk" not that you can't be in stealth or be invisible while in combat. Players should make an effort to contribute to some degree while in combat and out on adventure.
"Merchant Pinging" is checking an NPC merchant's prices numerous times in an attempt to get a better appraise roll. Players can shop their goods to multiple merchants and come back to the a particular merchant a second time, however, repeatedly re-testing the same merchant before doing business is considered an exploit of the game engine.
"Trap stacking" is laying traps so that they are directly on top of each other. Don't center a second trap on top of the first, you already put a trap there. You can partially overlap traps without exploiting the game mechanics and this is fine - you'll see that as their trigger zones overlapping but are not directly stacked and centered on top of each other.
"Transition Hopping" is leaving one area and returning to it for a mechanical advantage. Transition hopping to break line of sight, steal, despawn monsters, or use computer speeds to gain an upper-hand in PVP is an exploit. If you retreat from an area you're done there for the present. Do not return, you're done.
"Gold Loaning or item gifting" is loaning excessive amounts of gold or items of value to other player characters and is considered a form of twinking. Loaning another character some gold or assisting them in purchasing an item from a shop is fine so long as the amount is not excessive - This should be in assistance to the player, not paying for the entire thing outright. As a point of reference pick pocketing will return any item or amount over 500 gold. Do not loan thousands upon thousands of gold to other characters, the same goes for expensive items as gifts.
10. Do not Power Level or Farm - Power Leveling and Farming are not acceptable on FRC.
"Power Leveling" is defined as a higher level character taking a lower level character into places they couldn't survive on their own in order to level faster. A higher level character should not be taking a lower level character into places where they would die just stepping in.
Characters in a party with members more than 10 levels apart may adventure together for roleplay but will not receive XP while partied and may not loot from stationary loot containers. We ask that you pick up loot dropped by monsters and you may use whatever you find on them, including keys to gain access to other areas and quest items to earn a quest reward. You may not loot chests, bones, cabinets, lockers, armor stands and anything else you find on your travels containing loot drops, except drops from monsters/encounters. We refer to this as The 10 Level Rule.
"Farming" is defined as going to areas with little or no risk when encountering the easier creatures. For the same reason the dungeons inside the town of Greatgaunt cap at level 6, we encourage players to leave behind adventure areas that no longer present any risk in favor of areas that present a challenge for your character.
The only recognized exemptions to this are:
- The attempted rescue of a slain character/party with the express purpose of retrieving the fallen and bringing them to safety. When visiting a lower level area for a rescue one should only fight monsters in the path of reaching the characters in need of rescue and no loot containers should be accessed.
- Travel through an outdoor area with the purpose of getting to the next transition point to continue on a journey to a further destination. For example, taking the most direct route through an area from transition A to transition B. This means not hitting all the spawns in the area beyond the most direct route.
- Accessing the area as part of a DM or EDM Event
11. Keep party channel use to a minimum - If you must use the party channel, please do so only for emergency communication with your group. Please use tells to speak Out of Character and only to people who would want to hear from you. For quick out of character conversation the use of (( )) // or OOC as designation is acceptable.
Examples (//brb, ((brb one minute)), or OOC: brb one minute.
12. Pregnancy and the roleplay of children are disallowed - Pregnancy can only be used as a tool to retire your character. Pregnancy means Retirement as an adventurer and the end of the player character's story. Otherwise no pregnancies are allowed. Players should likewise not play characters who are themselves minors by the standards of their race.
13. Detect evil, detect alignment, telepathy, and scrying may be used with direct DM supervision only - Contact a DM and request permission if you wish to use these abilities either through PM or over the DM channel. Unless permission is given the use of these spells or abilities is disallowed.
14. Use horses responsibly - Do not take them indoors, in caves, or dungeons where a horse would not be able to traverse. Those seen breaking this rule will have their horse taken with no refund. Also, simply being mounted is not a reason to run/sprint the horse over long distances. The normal mode of movement for a horse is walking, especially with a rider on its back. Running/sprinting a horse should be reserved for short distances in times of urgency. Please see Rule 18 below.
15. Players may not Dual Box on FRC - Players may not play more than one character in game at the same time through multiple game clients. Please focus your roleplay effort on one character at a time. If you'd like to play an alternate character please log out of the current character first before logging into another one.
16. Limit inventory containers having persistent contents to 10 Maximum - For persistent possessions, the inventory of a character can have no more than 10 containers of any type, whether it be a box, bag of holding, magic bag, gem pouch, etc. at one time. This is to help reduce lag for a relatively lag free server.
The inventory can have a reasonable amount of additional empty containers in which to gather treasure when adventuring. The contents of these additional containers are considered temporary and should be emptied, sold, or traded by the end of the play session. Before logging out, only a maximum of 10 containers of any type should still have contents.
The DM Team reserves the right to intervene if a character has too many items in their inventory. If a DM determines a character has too many items in inventory regardless of bag count, the player will be asked to reduce the amount of items on the character within a reasonable amount of time.
17. Do not used odd appearances when crafting items - Do not use these appearances in crafting armor/weapons/items:
- Lightsabers
- Energy Shields (Unless purchased or dropped as DM reward)
- Tails and Wings (with the exception of the 10th level Red Dragon Disciple)
- Mermaid Bodies
- Missing Body Parts, Limbs, Peg Legs, Hook Hands.
- Saytr Legs, or other unnaturally curved legs.
DM's reserve the right to ask any player to remake any item that has been crafted into a banned or otherwise inappropriate item.
18. Do not run unless your character has a roleplay reason - Walking is the normal mode of movement for sentient creatures, not running. Running in game means sprinting not jogging, and it is an exertion reserved for times of urgency or excitement. Running/sprinting short distances in the midst of combat, to escape a fire or a disaster, or to greet a long lost friend is acceptable in character behavior. Running/sprinting from encounter to encounter to clear monsters and loot as fast as possible is not acceptable in character behavior.
19. Player vs Player encounters must follow FRC PVP Rules - FRC's rules governing PVP are explained here:
frc.proboards.com/thread/29381/server-rule-expanded-pvp-rules
20. Theft - Theft is allowed on FRC so long as it is role-played at all times. Whether theft takes place by highway robbery, alley muggings or simple pick-pocketing, theft needs to be role-played. Simply standing near someone and spamming your quick-keyed pick-pockets slot is not acceptable.
Abuse of theft is not acceptable on FRC. The player of a thieving character may steal from numerous characters in a day but may not steal more than once from an individual character in one day.
Stealing a character's most prized possessions is not allowed. If an item is valued more than 500 gold it must be returned. Using common sense, if you would not want a specific item stolen from your own character be considerate and find a way to get the item back to the owner. Always remember there is a real person playing the other character that may have worked very hard to obtain the stolen item.
The preferred way of handling an item return is in character. The Reverse Pick-pocket Tool could be used to plant the item back on the owner. The item could be 'turned in' to the law, the 'funny gnome' in the corner could be framed for the theft, or you could merely go with a quick "Hey, I think you dropped this back there..." if you are in a hurry.
The item must be returned before you log out, not necessarily immediately. However, should you keep the item you must provide the roleplay opportunities for the other character to 'play detective' or otherwise allow for the items return. A quick OOC tell to that player to let him know that you fully intend to see the item returned, so that he doesn't freak out in the event should you crash.
If due to OOC factors, time restraints, etc. you cannot handle the situation in character, either contact a DM or send a tell to the "victim" and arrange for the item's return out of character.

What made FRC better than other mods? Was it the scripting? The way the areas looked? The attention to detail? The interaction of the DM's? The way players could start and drive their own quests? The way the community stood together? Was it any one thing?
The areas are still the same quality if not better. Scripting has improved. Even when we stopped adding into the mod, the bug fix thread has stayed open for those detail fixes that are needed. DM's interactions may be less than some like and more than others care for, but that isn't new either. Players can still start their own quests.
The one thing that seems to have changed to me is that instead of being a community, we are groups of people. Do you know what the difference is?
I think to get the feel back that we once had, we need to remember that our actions effect everyone on the server. Don't be self-centered.
I have two friends in real life that quit this server because of the "don't run" mentality. I've played DnD with these guys for years and still do. They don't understand that by running through town all the time they changed the feel of the town. To describe this in NWN terms, the "immersion factor" difficulty check was raised to where some of our players failed.
Where my friends hurting anyone? If you ask them, they weren't. If you ask the players in town, they were. My friends needed to realize that their actions effect others around them. They choose to go to an action server instead. I think it was the right thing for them to do.
Are you thinking you don't effect anyone? Do you believe your actions shouldn't matter to anyone else and that you want to be left alone? Are you a loner, part of a group, or part of a community that cares about each other?

This is to help reduce lag for a relatively lag free server.

19. Player vs Player encounters must follow FRC PVP Rules - FRC's rules governing PVP are explained here:
