On common, humble parchment, what seems to be an internal memorandum from within the walls of the school filters out. A single copy is posted in the lower floors, alongside the public roster. Other copies are hung by students in Alizarin attire upon message boards across the city.
Vakur's Roar. A return to vanities and pride, but still without a solution in hand.
To say nothing for the public updates on the timely, capable and professional handlings of current events in the city of Valkur's Roar by the High Mage would be negligent. To sidestep this negligence I say only, in brief, that his duty to the city is being quietly and professional fulfilled to the expectations I have of his role.
What I want here to address is the host of very real problems of Valkur's Roar not being so addressed to the expectations I carry. The ones not solved by spells and swords, heroes with charters and armor and pretty words. The problems of Valkur's Roar are of the entirely mundane sort, the domestic sort. The sort that fall well below the minimum thresholds o fame and glory often demanded from the public figures of the city, who believe a good deed done is only of value when done with the pomp and pretense that comes from outrageous parties and ponderous social declarations.
To speak directly to the issues which were last eve illumed, my worries, the same worries I have now for years expressed privately and publicly, persist and propagate. Where the public leaders excel, I speak specifically to Kiki, is the calling to attention of shortcomings. The wisdom and clarity of her purpose is clear for all to see. What I question, is the common pragmatism to her approach.
I speak pointedly of the educational needs of Valkur's Roar. The poorest, the most vulnerable populations of the city, children, yes, but not only children, are the very same populations caught in the endless pulls of governmental failures and endless public charities. I am tired of seeing millions of lions flood the streets to sustain the most desperately wanting of the city, as if they are the seasonal rains which sustain our farmers. And I am not alone. How many millions of lions have flooded this city? How much change have we seen? Are those lions empowering those in need, or are those lions furthering the very problems that plague this city?
The vulnerable populations need empowerment and essential life skills to escape the cycle of poverty, criminal activity and dependence upon these serial relief efforts. A school is not a monument to individual success, where students and staff come to stand in awe of the people who made such things reality. A school is any setting that brings together minds that wish to learn and minds that wish to teach. A school can be a barn. A school can be a quiet corner of the public square.
As of this day, the full weight of Alizarin leans against these problems.
As of this day, early educational primers are in fevered production and making the journey to Valkur's Roar.
As of this day, it is mandatory for graduation of all students, from all levels of Alizarin, to participate in and lead public education courses within the walls of the city of Valkur's Roar for the population of the city of Valkur's Roar.
We have spent too many of our efforts in drawing to us what and who we can, and saying to ourselves that we have the wisdom to understand that it is only within these walls that our influence lives. We have spent our efforts on further polishing minds already rubbed to a brilliant luster. The policies of isolation and perfection have held outsized influence in our minds, and,as of this day, this is over.
