Tyranny of Dragons, Part 1: Hoard of the Dragon Queen
In an audacious bid for power, the Cult of the Dragon, along with its dragon allies and the Red Wizards of Thay, seeks to free Tiamat from her prison in the Nine HElls to bring her to the Forgotten Realms.
The cult's forces are sweeping from town to town, laying waste to all who oppose them and gathering a hoard of riches for their dread queen.
The threat is so dire, factions as disparate as the Harpers and the Zhentarim are banding together to battle the cult. Never before has the need for heroes been as desperate.
---
The town of Greenest was founded by the halfling Dharva Scatterheart, a rogue who fancied herself the queen of the Greenfields. Scatterheart passed away without ever achieving that level of eminence, but her town grew into a thriving community. Its success isn't surprising, since Greenest is the only town of any size astride the Uldoon Trail, the most direct road between the eastern cities of the Dragon Coast, Cormyr, and Sembia with the Coast Way running south to the great cities of Amn, Tethyr, and far Calimshan. The trade caravans that pass through Greenest bring gold to the town's merchants and craftsfolk, and Governor Nighthill runs the town at the behest of the inhabitants.
Our tale begins here, upon the road toward Greenest, heading north from Amn and the City of Splendors. A small group has gathered, traveling somberly in a merchant's caravan as they rock along the beaten path of the Uldoon Trail. With Greenest lying upon the horizon, the Caravan sets down for the night to prepare to make camp. Stories are shared amongst the fire, and the need for heroes becomes ever more dire as the gravity of what might just be going on in Faerun really begins to set in.
Out of the Abyss
The Underdark is a subterranean wonderland, a vast and twisted labyrinth where fear reigns. It is the home of horrific monsters that have never seen the light of day. It is here that the dark elf Gromph Baenre, Archmage of Menzoberranzan, casts a foul spell meant to ignite a magical energy that suffuses the Underdark and tears open portals to the demonic Abyss. What steps through surprises even him, and from that moment on, the insanity that pervades the Underdark escalates and threatens to shake the Forgotten Realms to its foundations. Stop the madness before it consumes you!
---
Deep beneath the surface of the world lies the Underdark, a realm of endless labyrinthine tunnels and caverns where the sun never shines. The Underdark is filled with races and creatures too numerous to count or list, and foremost among these are the dark elves -- the Drow. Hated and feared even by their fellow dwellers in darkness, the drow raid other settlements in the Underdark as well as the surface world, taking prisoners back with them. Rendered unconscious with Drow poison, then collared and shackled, these prisoners are eventually sold as slaves or entertainment in the dark elves' subterranean cities.
The adveneturers have all had the misfortune of falling to such a fate. Captured by the Drow, they are prisoners at on of these outposts, awaiting transportation to Menzoberranzan....the City of Spiders...
The Lost Mines Of Phandelver
More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver's Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge (called the Forge of Spells), where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin (pronounced fan-duh-lin) prospered as well.
But then disaster struck when ores swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path.
A powerful force of ores reinforced by evil mercenary wizards attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost.
For centuries, rumors of buried riches have attracted treasure seekers and opportunists to the area around Phandalin, but no one has ever succeeded in locating the lost mine. In recent years, people have resettled the area. Phandalin is now a rough-and-tumble frontier town. More important, the Rockseeker brothers-a trio of dwarveshave discovered the entrance to Wave Echo Cave, and they intend to reopen the mines.
Unfortunately for the Rockseekers, they are not the only ones interested in Wave Echo Cave. A mysterious villain known as the Black Spider controls a network of bandit gangs and goblin tribes in the area, and his agents have followed the Rockseekers to their prize. Now the Black Spider wants Wave Echo Cave for himself, and he is taking steps to make sure no one else knows where it is.
Hello and Welcome! This post is an invitation to those looking to join in on a Pen and Paper styled campaign that will be run using the Roll20 system, and DND 5th Edition core rules. I will be welcoming players to come sign up, with a planned group of 4-5 players at most, with myself as the Dungeon Master. Now, I forewarn that my experience as a dungeon master is very much limited, but im hoping to help flourish this out.
For the sake of the system, I plan to make this campaign a similarly aligned campaign. That means no PVP based conflicts in the party, unless its completely in character. Even then, these situations will be diffused at DM discretion.
What is Roll20?
Roll20 is a suite of easy-to-use digital tools that expand pen-and-paper gameplay. Whether you play online via our virtual tabletop or in person utilizing our character sheet and dice rolling application, Roll20 will save you time and help you focus on enhancing your favorite parts of tabletop gaming.
But I don't know 5th Edition!!
Thats entirely okay! Neither do I! Neither do any of our players, really! We're going to be learning it together, and I will help build characters as you see fit, or help you in any way I can.
I want to play with a backstory like x/y/z
Im more than happy to work with you.
I don't want to play, but can I watch your campaign go on?
Sure! I plan to stream it, or open it to the public for viewers to keep an eye on as we progress through the system, so that anybody can follow us as we play.
If you're interested or have questions, please feel free to post here or message me. I will select players from a pool of interest. If you don't get selected, I do apologize and it is nothing personal at all. After we have a group decided, or prior to, we can select a campaign either by popular vote of the group, or by a poll on the forums for the whole community.
PLEASE NOTE: This campaign WILL be an RP centric campaign as well. I am a DM who will take your words very literal, and will require you to act very much IN CHARACTER during the campaign, as comfortable with the group.
Stats are done by a roll system. 4d6, Drop your lowest dice, rolled 6 times.
