*watches as this topic spirals totally out of control*
I love the Tic too, but is there anyway we could keep comments here about the Hardcore setting? I was using this topic for "legitimate purposes" like what you guys were observing about the settings.
Thanks!

sure, i've died a couple of times on hardcore ... but those deaths were 10x awesomer than any non-hardcore death. though, the only difference i couldtell from it is being critically hit and that healing kits are much cheaper ... both are good

should invisibility potions work differently on HC?
cause they used to be another sure bet thing like heal pots. you drank one, and you vanished. they have seemed significantly less effective for me since the HC change. evrything from scorpions to hill giants has seemed to have little difficulty continuing to wail on me when i down one of those potions.
Just curious if it is me of if this is a difference in HC. Maybe it's just that I have used them a couple times more often on the new setting, I dunno.

Sorry bro, I got swept up into the enthusiasm that always leads to hijacking your threads, Justi.

i've noticed that too logan. i think that they continue making listen checks as long as you move causei could recall hiding behind a rock and staying still and the enemies stopped chasing me

Most likely, the listen skill was nerfed for invisible PCs in the privious setting. Manshin has decent listen skills, and I detect invisible players all the time, though stealthed players I have much more trouble with. If you turn invisible, try going into stealth mode as well. I think that the monsters still make their listen checks now, like players do, even if they cant see you. One other thing you could try... though it will require some guts, is to just hold still once you drink the potion. If you are not moving, no listen check will be made. They will likely run up to where you were when you drank the potion and stop. Wait for them to wander off, then go into stealth mode and tip toe away. Other than this guess, I dont know of any changes that have been made. It is possible that some enemies have had a few more ranks put into their alertness in order to guard against ninja looters... though Im not certain.

If you are referring to the scorpions at the Scorpion clan, some of those have true seeing. Giants on the other hand...
Most likely what is happening is once you drink an invis potion, combat cancels. However, while you are within 5 ft. of your opponent you are still "detectable" which means that the monster will reinitiate combat and can now follow you till you break view with him. Best bet is to try running away asap and rounding a corner too. Once you have flagged a target for combat, you'd be amazed how far you can chase them they are invisible.

you know, I think that you are right about the listen thing, cause I was invis and got chased forever, but when I went into stealth mode and kept walking, they lost me.
So I guess that means that if you stand still, they won't hear you, but you are right, that is gonna take some balls to try. ;D

well, i have balls and still hafta keep running as them invisibles do not work as well they used to. giants and such seem that they should not be able to see me when invisible as most are not the sharpest sword at the armororers...

"giants and such seem that they should not be able to see me when invisible as most are not the sharpest sword at the armororers..."
Intelligence has nothing to do with being able to hear or see someone.

well wisdom does and though i have never hung out with giants, do you not think their wisdom would be low? but, anyhow, i was just agreeing with logan and anja, not a real comment just saying i do agree that invisible potions do not really help as much, oh well. it seems that things like endurance and bulls strength are awesome now and maybe should cost more and invisible potions less now, but since i rarely buy them, no worries here.

The invisible potions are fine. You just have to be quiet. They can still hear you running. And Quad is correct... if within five feet, they will detect you, moving or not. Unless you are stealthed (and competent at it) So, if you drink one, boogie... at least until you are around a corner or something, then stop and dont move. Invis potions are good for a lot more than fleeing combat however, so I doubt they need to be discounted.

I have to admit at this point in the conversation that certain creatures who wouldn't normally have true seeing were given the ability on equipment issued to them to have it. This was (in fact as someone pointed out) to combat ninja looters and their ilk. Some creatures were also bumped a bit on their listen/spot/search skills to help with this as well when we weren't entirely certain what impact this would have in game, and on the rules setting we were using.
I could have kept my mouth shut, I am sure...
Having made this revelation, I will be working to correct this. I am 95% certain what was touched, and why and the vast majority should be reversed to "normal" standards very soon.
If you have a specific case you wish to address, please, don't wait for me to get to it... the squeaky wheel will get the grease. PM me with specific concerns and I will follow up with action pretty much immediately.
Cheers guys.

I usually have as many speed potions as i do invis potions...that way if i start getting into trouble..i down a speed potions and an invis and from there your pretty much safe To much expensive... I do prefer a more scientific way, considering probabilities and the chaotic blows hitting my head I just drink as many healing potions my despair permits and cross feet fingers in a desperate attempt to save my character , I calculated 32% of times functions very well against insaneimpossibleextremeviolentenemies... during the first 10 seconds... so better run after this in this specific case... against moderate enemies in great numbers this works about 72% of times in a no leg condition, and of course you can set any numbers you like since 99% of statistics are all lies Well, anyway I prefer hardcore set, makes things more imprevisible and funny, I mean, in normal ways you know and can deduce what you need to 'win'
