The entry on Nessus in Fiendish Codex 2 implies that most of the divine energy Asmodeus gathers goes to attempting to heal the wounds caused by his fall. As well, as a lawful being, Asmodeus is generally against altering the status quo, and if he happened to reach godhood, it would cause a power vacuum in Hell he doesn't wish to exist before he's had a chance to wage war against the upper realms.

That almost makes him sound altruistic.

Bringing this thread back to life again, since it may help some players to understand/learn a bit more about the Forgotten Realms Lore. A doubt of one can be the doubt of many.
Check if any of your doubts are already answered in this thread, if not even if MaO is not here to answer any question himself, I'm sure that anyone within the community will be willing to help!

We have a DM Q&A section now, which serves much the same purpose for official answers, and much of the information in this thread is also available in the Lore of the Lands Section.

If people do have lore based questions and have trouble finding it within the lore threads and don't want to go through the Q&A process, they can likely post a normal thread in the lore section if they don't think it's worth pestering the DM team over.
Beyond that I am a FR book junkie and would be happy to help anyone that has lore questions, all you have to do is shoot me a PM.

Especially if it has to do with Dwarves or Hins(halflings) feel free to pm IG (Uthgrimwyrmslayer) or send a message to my inbox.

In fact, if you're tempted to post a question there I recommend sorting the DM Q&A by subject and seeing if it's already been asked. I've tried to rename many DM Q&A threads so they sort by Class, Skill, Feat, Setting, Module, Time, Rule when the threads are sorted by subject.

Now that would be extremely useful, even if it sounds like a very hard work as well!! My only intention about bumping this thread was only to try to "help" some people who sometimes ask me about some of the FR lore and even though I tell them that there is a special area in the forum dedicated only to this theme, for some reason they continue to have doubts... ((IMO they probably didn't even took a peek there)), so bumping this could "force" them in a nice way to read a bit, and enthusiasm them to take a look at the Lore we have in that section, which is more than complete!!!

Oh, there's nothing wrong with continuing to use this thread. I wanted to make people aware of alternatives as well. There are members of our community that know things and can answer in this thread that wouldn't be inclined to post long entries in the Lore of the Lands, and who aren't DMs so shouldn't be replying in DM Q&As (though they can still PM their response to a DM to post in a DM Q&A if they know the answer). I've tried to rename many DM Q&A threads so they sort by Class, Skill, Feat, Setting, Module, Time, Rule when the threads are sorted by subject. Now that would be extremely useful, even if it sounds like a very hard work as well!! Try it some time. Not everything is categorized that way, but that's because some of it defies categorization and others I just haven't figured where they best fit. I will say it's mostly categorized though.
