Post by DM Justicar - Creator of FRC on Dec 5, 2005 20:16:55 GMT -5
I am considering reducing the number of eligible players on FRC to 20 + DM's until I can get a little more work done on lag reduction. Given the size of the FRC module I think this would be beneficial for those who are lucky enough to log on and enjoy a relatively lag free experience. This just means that there could only be 20 players on at any given time plus DM's.
I will continue to work on reducing lag as soon as I get things all the way back in order at the homestead here, later this week. In the meantime, I would like to reduce lag and crashes, so I think this best. When lag starts to become less of an issue, I will start raising the cap. We will probably get to have 32 on at any given time by the time lag reduction phase I is totally completed and phase II gets underway. With our current DM team, this is plenty to handle and I don't think we really need more players on at any given time than this.
Repeated afk loggers will be asked to leave or booted. Anyway, that's my hair-brained scheme for the time being. Fire away...

i'll go nuts if i one evening can't log on to FRC because it's full... but if it help lag, and it's only temporary, i'll not complain until i pervieve it to be a real problem if many players can't log on.

NO!!! NEVER!!! *whimpers* I need my fix... sounds like a plan stan playing without lag and sometimes not playing=better than all of us playing with lag, and crashing all the time. but it is great to see the player base needing a cap again YAY!

Well, its been full every time I've logged in the past few days. Glad to see so many new faces around. The lag problems seem to be slowly coming to an end which means Justicar's hard work is finally paying off and we all owe him big. I just spawned... mass amounts... tens... twenties... or more... zombies in *Isinhold* with relatively no lag at all. One of the zombies had an AoE knockdown that hit something around nine people over and over again. No lag... So, the total amount of players allowed on may change soon, provided that the new fixes hold tight and the rest of it cleans up okay.

Well, not to bust your chops or anything, but I had major lag at that time, but I'm in Europe, so that may be what's causing it. Had to relog once with all those blasted knockdown-zombie's. Anyway, I talked to some of you on the chat while it was resetting. Appears it was MUCH worse at one time, so keep up the good work, Justi. Snuble.

Got to do what you got to do. *nodsnods* And I see it as a good thing that the server maxes out. Means people do enjoy coming here to play. ^_^ Don't mean I won't whimper when I see the server at 20/20 and I'm not in it.

I think it is fine so long as i can log in for the few hours that i can play each day. ;D Hmmm ... yes ... after a very stressful weekend, i found myself desiring to join my buds for a relaxing evening of killing banites ... i umm mean baddies. But lo and behold there were 20 other people logged in already. Crushed beyond repair, my soul wandered into the world of oblivion and I did not find nearly as much fun. I do hope the last phase of lag reduction can be reached soon so we can bump this number up a bit. As always keep up the good work with the lag reduction.

Agreed.. kind of a double edged sword, pardon the pun. Its exciting to see so many new players coming on board, yet I am disappointed every time I attempt to log in and we are full.
See Quad we should never voted... ever since we did I've noticed an uptick in the number of players! Justi had it planned all along! *grumbles*
Kidding of course Justi! ;D
...wonders if he should torture Hroth again for killing Banites... erm I mean baddies....

Because of the exotic time in which i abide i am often here when few if any others are about. I really notice lag in large groups and when the server is busy. You are perhaps victims of your own success in some regards
a question - does using dial up matter in this regard ?

From experience on usinig a dial-up, I would say no. Not entirely sure though.

I have noted lag increases with a party of 5... at 6+ it starts to become unplayable, then again this may be related to other factors and purely coincidental. I play using DSL and periodically dial up or wireless (over a cellular wireless signal closer to dial up speed). Lag is definitely greater when I am NOT using DSL, then again that is most likely related to the speed of the connection.
