The way to the depths of the accursed Necropolis was hard to reach - already, several of the party members had fallen to the endless hoard of undead that stood in their way. Glewien thought to herself, that indeed Mordsen must have returned - whatever foul black magic that held him on this plane of existence - must have saved him from their previous encounter when Gial slew him.
Surveying the badly injured party, she knew she had to find the portal out of that accursed place - what original hopes they had about hunting down Mordsen, had he returned, faded with each step into the uncaring darkness ahead - whispering a slow and painful death . . . or worst.
They soon came before their final obstacle - scouting ahead in shadow, she saw that the portal to freedom was guarded - guarded by a small force of Mordsen's elite. She warned the group of what lied ahead, with a nod - everyone knew their role in this final of battle to freedom - it was within their grasp now.
Talus rushed ahead with uncanny and unnatural speed releasing upon the undead a spell that froze time itself - spell after spell he hurled at them before the time released us all. Glewien rushed into battle waving her fiery mace upon the undeads that stood between her and the freedom that the portal promised - but before she could strike one down, she witnessed - to her horror - another force of undead lying in the darkness awaiting to strike. An ambush . . . time froze again, she yelled out "Behind us!!!". All stood still, one by one her friends fell . . . Talus, Phelzaron, Aelrik, Cormac . . . perhaps even Padrin. Her last visions saw them all fall, with the Vampire Lord, whom she knew all too well appear before them grinning all so gleefully. Life fled from her . . . all she saw know was a bright light . . .
------------
Awakening on the cold floor of a druid's temple, she get up - dazed and confused. Merris stares down at her "Are you alright, Lady Glewien?". She looks up at him confused, "Aye . . . who are you? How do you know my name?". Merris looks at her strangely, "Hmmm, some rest would do you good, Milady - it will all come back to you . . . it always does."
Getting up, she wanders off into the village looking lost and confused. "Where am I? How did I get here?"
She desperately begins searching for a way to get home . . . what she knew was home . . . Shadowdale.
