;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I know I just started my character Yulena, and indeed I’m going to work on developing her quiet a bit. But I’ve also noticed that for the first time in a very long time I would like to play someone a little less… well- pleasant. There are merits to playing two characters at the same time, but before I even bother with the effort I just want to be sure that I don’t stumble and commit any FRC taboos. Naturally I wouldn’t allow one character to know about the plans of the other. So I have some general questions to ask- and I hope that sooner or later I can generate the character and start playing her. 1. It is assumed that all characters start out in Isinhold yes? For a certain amount of time my evil character would have to play it low- even anti-social to a certain extent. I find that evil characters can’t strike much fear at low levels. (And good characters can be very supportive from level 1- though not have much impact against evils- but still can have a very fulfilling and active *positive* rp life.) So is it a taboo for a character to start out very out of the way, very not talkative and interactive with other characters until they have a few levels under their belt? If not I’ll work a way around this problem. I do love to role-play after all. 2. I won’t go into the entire concept- but I am interested in making a devoted follower of Loviatar. I hope I am not missing any forums about evil clerics or evil deity worshipers and certain guidelines they should follow in the game for role-playing? I haven’t seen this situation arise- but in an old mud I used to play on the problem was often with *detect evil*. Paladins would walk into a room and know you were evil- even if you were behaving within the law- and even nice on a social level. It has a tendency to ruin evil plans. I always would hope the paladin would have to have a reason to detect evil. So how does that work around here? I’m assuming it isn’t too much a problem. 3. Pain. Torture. Bad things happen to people. I’m assuming things like capture and torture, pain and scarring would have to be of an agreement of both parties. I can deal with that. But I just wanted to make sure before I go making a rather UNpleasent character that there were not rules against this sort of role-play. I don’t want to put role-players out of their comfort zone. Indeed- I hope to provide a character for the good people to fight against, to fear. ~Smiles~ 4. Any general advice you would have for me on this topic of Evil role-play. I can take it. Thanks in advance. Truth be told I would like to get started on her pretty soon so I can work on them both during their low levels. I can switch from one to the other when role-play gets slow on one end. I’m sure you understand the dance.

I say go for it. I have an evil character and playing it low-key at low levels is the idea. As far as player interaction, I suppose anything is ok if both parties support the role-lay. It is nice to have an alter-ego. ;D A world where only DMs are bad guys would go flat eventually.. as good as they are. Having baddies around makes it possible for story's to unfold even when no DM's are present. There is nothing cooler then a well played villain, in my book.
Everyone has comfort zones and limitations, it would just be up to you to find those who would be willing to endure this type of RP. I am sure many would be willing. After all, it's just role-play. But hey.. thats just my opinion.

Evil characters would be highly unlikely to go around Isinhold (or anywhere of good/neutral alingment) waving banners of say, Loviatar like they were on parade. Actually, this *has* happened in the past with other players of evil, but we won't discuss it here, hehe. Point is, good villains are always welcome! Don't be too eager to blow your "figurative wad" in one session. There are plenty of sessions and plenty of RP to come. The only obligation you have to yourself on FRC is to have fun and assure the same for your fellow players.

cleric domains can be found here: frc.proboards37.com/index.cgi?board=lore&action=display&thread=1097869585i highly advise keeping low in general, it's easy to get overwhelmed. about torture and such yes both parties must agree, and remember too keep things interesting while torturing...both parties might aswell enjoy watching the crap getting kicked out of the one character, right Shivata? lol. be careful about others, i've had enough other people pissed off at me about things i've done. and above all if you or other people thing something isn't right by meta or mod's on die rolls speak up before they get ugly. my last piece of advise is always have 3 escape plans. P.S. if you RP right a level 1 can be quite significant against evil or good. just because their health bar is full doesn't mean they couldn't be K.O.'d RP wise

As the resident 'Evil DM' if you have any questions, I'll gladly take them. I have tons of characters and they are all evil. I tried playing good a few times and I got ill and most CN types I play end up CE.
As for being a low level, there are a few groups (won't say who) that would likely take you on should you show some amount of promise, even at low level, though you would have to grab their attention without breaking your own attempts at flying under the radar.

there is one aspect of being evil not many realize... it's not a crime to be evil. It's not a crime to have a dark profession. It *is* a crime to openly worship an evil patron. It *is* a crime to get caught. I say be evil but leave no witnesses

Seems I am late to the party, but thought I would offer to answer questions as well. Most know so I am not revealing a secret but I play a cleric of Bane... have since I came to the server. I have always prided myself that most never knew his true motivations until he reach about level 13 or so... kinda flew under the radar for a long time... seems so long ago I forget. Even then the truth was only discovered because a War Wizard was scrying... damn WWs... kill em all!
In that time Ranan made several arch enemies.. in fact one I like the most is a character that Ranan "befriended" early on and now is constantly out hunting him.
I think its great that you are thinking this through.... evil doesnt have to be overt, even a Banite who is arrogant and overly confident is not that stupid.
As far as detect evil that has been debated before on these boards and my understanding is a DM needs to be involved for the Paladin to detect anything. In addition, while they can detect evil it requires concentration and even then they get a sense of the area its coming from not necessary specifically who... there is more to say about it, but refer to the player's handbook and the actual spell. In my opinion, if a paladin tried detect evil, an evil cleric could attempt a spell to cloak his alignment.
Anyway... I'm around as well if you want to talk...

i thought dectecting evil was simply a players choice to reveal it, or not, to a pally that asks...

i thought dectecting evil was simply a players choice to reveal it, or not, to a pally that asks... As I said, in my past with online Rp where detect evil has come into play, it wasn't used properly. Pallies could cast it and evil characters near by would be flagged for them to see. (only Palli could see the flag, but the damage was done.) It was unfortunately abused and pallies wouldn't fall for tricks, deceiving, or even remotely allow themselves or anyone they knew (if they could help it.) to trust the evil character they saw flagged. Because I haven't seen any threads debating Detect evil (or any alignment dection.) I assumed that it isn't a problem here?

i thought dectecting evil was simply a players choice to reveal it, or not, to a pally that asks... If you are willing to do so I guess that's ok, but it is not required based on my understanding of past discussions here. DM's should be involved in a sense since, detect evil is not as specific as asking a PC if they are evil or not. Well at least that is my opinion...

Thanks for the linking, I've been looking over some other threads about alignments and gods, and resources and such, and you've been a big help. Could just be me, but I think playing a good character is alot easier than playing someone evil. At least it is for me. Donno why.

IMHO it really isnt easy to play a "thinking" evil character. I mean its easy to run around inciting fights and killing people for no logical reason. Cormyr is a LG kingdom and most adventurers show up here because there is turmoil in the realm; they are hear to push it back. Anyway, do NOT let this discourage you! Seriously I am not trying to do that! ;D At one point I was the only Banite PC and even with everything I've said I have such a great time playing evil. Bar none Ranan is my favorite character of all time. I really enjoy trying to outthink the goodies or just trying to stay one step ahead of them. Of course that doesnt always happen some of them are kinda smart so it leads to confrontation. In my case, the majority of those confrontations have ended without a fight. Good luck and remember you are not evil, just misunderstood or alignment challenged!

As my research continues. (for me evil characters need lots of planning!) I now have a very simple question of you- Is Ranan still around? I'm assuming yes- because you speak of him so fondly. As for the rest of the Detect Evil threads and previous discussions I find that I have more agreement with people here than disagreement. As I have hoped it is in good hands and a very fair situation. As near as I can tell, roleplay should win over all the situations- and if they detect evil then a good scene will come of it instead of "You there, you with that rather dubious brow and half scowl on your face- you're a cretain! A body of evil I say! Be off with thee before I summon the guards." Because- well- I might be a bit jaded but I've seen perfectly good roleplayers suddenly do perfectly scene killing actions like that. What is it about Detect Alignments that causes excellent players to go crazy? Is it because Alignments are simular of to character levels? In character we really never speak of "levels." We don't refuse tasks because we're level one. We say- "Um, good sir- I've never trained for such work, I do believe I will be a hinderence for you." I think it would rather difficult to type cast anyone to a certain alignment. "Hark! Robinhood- Stop here you randomly inclined do-gooder! I sense in you a need to defey tryanic driven laws!" Ok I'm going for the cheese here- but you get the idea. I suppose I think of "detect alignment" to that of a "sense motive." or "bump of trouble." or even "Gut feelings." The truth be told the intentions of my character will certainly be revealed oneday. You can tell when someone has an extreme lack of compasion or ethics or respect for the commonwealth of mankind. (*looks back and forth suspeciously.*) "My god! you just dropped that baby down the well!" "I know isn't it horrible? I thought it might drown but the hole only amplfies the screams. Why didn't you tell me that it was dry?" "Well sir! I do believe you are EVIL." "Well mam I do believe you have a stunning sense of observation!" Ok enough joking. (Don't worry, if I drop any baby's down any wells I won't have anyone there watching me.)

I now have a very simple question of you- Is Ranan still around? I'm assuming yes- because you speak of him so fondly. LOL oh he's alive and with more back hands and kung fu moves then ever! lol jk grozer. back to seriousness! i don't know what people seem to get out of alignment detection but if you ask me their only using their options just like everyone else. usually if a pally asks me detect evil i say yes IF i am being fairly evil at that moment, or just letting my characters emotions go. i've been here for a year and only delt with detect alignment 3 times, once was a yes. so i would expect you would not run into it too much as i have come to. LOL the baby clearly was walking around the edge of the well and took a bad step right? IMHO evil isn't always the hardest but it is up there, i'd say second. i'd say neutral is truely the hardest to play, since you actually have a choice on what you do as compaired to others.

It *is* a crime to openly worship an evil patron. It *is* a crime to get caught. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the church of Malar have crown-sanctioned dominion over wild game and ensuring its good health in Cormyr? And what about sailors who are simply appealing to Umberlee so the sea doesn't swallow them the next time they ship out?

And what about sailors who are simply appealing to Umberlee so the sea doesn't swallow them the next time they ship out? I second that. If I remember my campaign setting correctly, Cormyr even has a few temples/shrines to evil deities located throughout the kingdom. Worshipping an evil Deity is NOT against the law. Doing illegal things as part of your worship of a Deity, whether evil, good or neutral, is. Worship of some specific Deities might of course be outlawed due to past infractions or the like.

The joy I find in being evil, is not so much being evil. But in pointing out to those roleplaying 'good' how close-minded, judgemental and how actually evil they behave in the name of good. It is rare that you find the benevolant, peaceful good character. More often then not my evil character is committing self-defense against Crusading good murderers. Kind of reminds me of our national politics.... hmmm.

I think playing LG is just has hard as playing CE. (just to randomly evil for me.) I've been working on the details of my little evil one and I hope to start them up soon. I'm curious though, could a good person then argue that your displaying peaceful and good tendencies therefor- your not the bad kid after all? Everyone into the Nuetral Pot!
